Plugging a new bermuda lawn
Originally the plan was to sod a section of my yard dominated with fescue. I killed off the existing turf in preparation for the new sod.
The plan has changed. Financial constraints via other hobbies/projects has establishing this patch of yard on the back seat.
I plan on plugging from the existing turf.

The right side looks really good. Are you going to just pull plugs out from the right side every few feet and put them on the left side?

Re: Plugging a new bermuda lawn
Thanks! I plan on pulling as many plugs as I can toward the back so it's not visible from street. The remainder, I'll do as you did and buy rolls to finish the job.cbolling wrote:The right side looks really good. Re: Plugging a new bermuda lawn
I wouldn't worry about the other side looking bad. If you plant on 12" centers you will have plenty of grass on the other side. Plus if you backfill your holes with a 50/50 soil sand mix the holes will disappear within a few weeks.

Will take care of aerating the right side all in one

Re: Plugging a new bermuda lawn
Thanks for the suggestions guys! You are probably correct. Why am I worried about the total aesthetics when the left side is dead as a door nail? As you said it'll help with aeration, cost and should help with the leveling process of the established bermuda, all in one shot.

Re: Plugging a new bermuda lawn
Nice documentation on this thread! I have about 500 square feet I am about to establish in Celebration Bermuda from plugs or sod I plan to purchase. From that point, I plan to begin are larger project using the original 500 ft. I have been considering using a dethatcher very aggressively to harvest sprigs from my farm plot and begin spreading them as sprigs to other plots I cultivate.

Re: Plugging a new bermuda lawn
Initially, I am gonna plug to get enough area established to harvest sprigs from. I plan to verticut that area at some point and sprig a larger area depending on the amount of sprigs I can harvest. I have way too much area to even consider plugging and have it fill in this decade, so I figure sprigging will get some ground covered much faster. I have about 13k of mixed 419 and common that I will section off and do as time and progress allows. Should be lots of fun!tbdh20 wrote:Thanks Hambone!

Re: Plugging a new bermuda lawn
I've started to fill the dead lawn. Some filled plugs apparent in the right corner.
The plugs are +/- 12". I am considering doing the rest 18"/24". Part laziness but I am curious if it would establish by seasons end. I'm sure I'll run out of existing turf to plug from and not willing to beat it up terribly.
