Woodsorrel

Post by jtyrie » September 1st, 2014, 5:09 pm

I'm having a difficult year. We are under water restrictions so my lawn is not as healthy as I'd like. I have a particular weed in my Bermuda that is enjoying the growing conditions. From everything I can tell, it's a type of Woodsorrel. It looks like a 3 leaf clover, grows very low, spreads very quickly. The leaves seem to change color throughout the summer.

I've tried Weed B Gon on it several times and it just seems to slow down for a couple of weeks. I believe the leaves are waxy so the herbicide can't get into the plant's system as efficiently.

Has anyone successfully killed this weed off? I'd appreciate any suggestions. It's in my turf so I can't really use a broad spectrum killer.

Woodsorrel is also known as Oxalis. Many of the warm-season folks have had luck with Celsius on Bermuda. It's expensive, but does have woodsorrel/Oxalis on the weeds-controlled list. And it seems like it is useful for many, many warm-season sins.

Maybe this is my excuse to finally pull the trigger and buy some Celsius. Thanks, Andy!

Why not use a product made by a company here in Texas. Two reasons would be: 1) you can talk to a company rep that knows the current climate and conditions, and; 2). It is considerably less expensive. I maintain my lawn organically, but when a problem occurs that I want to eliminate quickly, I turn to this company VPG. At least give them a call and see if they are to your liking. Good Luck!

You may also need to use some MSO(methylated Seed Oil) or something similar to help the herbicide "stick" and penetrate the waxy leaf of the weed you are spraying.
