Paspalum (Seashore)(Paspalum Vaginatum)
Why doesn't this grass get more respect? It's rather amazing

Re: Paspalum
I have researched it extensively over the Winter and have found it to be a superior grass from what I have read on it. The only downside is you have to be careful with some chemicals you put on it, mainly for weed control but other than that it seems like a very fine turf. The one thing I really like is that it can be mowed from 1/8" all the way up to 2" for the SeaSpray variety and supposedly dew doesn't really form on it and it stripes really well too! If I ever move and stay in the South I would definitely consider it for my next lawn.Southernguy311 wrote:

Re: Paspalum
I tried it a few years ago. Planted roughly 5k sq.ft. It came up beautifully (it was a wet area), but all died during the winter. I started too late (labor day). The seed isn't cheap, but I guess none of it is.

I'm strongly considering abandoning my Bermuda plans and going with Platinum TE Paspalum.Mightyquinn wrote:I have researched it extensively over the Winter and have found it to be a superior grass from what I have read on it. Re: Paspalum
So there is this, no bragging here. Dan is the turf manager for the Houston Astros now who has a 100 percent paspalum playing surface current day. Dan was the turf manager at the University of Kentucky when I went to school there and I've known him for a long time so I decided to reach out.

Re: Paspalum
Love it! Get the soil right and seems like a pretty maintenance free grass in terms of fertilization.

Re: Paspalum
P.s. we have the Bermuda Bible. Perhaps we need a Paspalum Playbook?

Re: Paspalum
I'm more torn than ever and I'm a week and a half away from sod installation.
Tifgrand or Platinum TE Paspalum?
Always wanted a Bermuda lawn, but the Paspalum is so tempting. Plus I like to be on the edge of something new.

Re: Paspalum
How much sod are we talking about? What is the price difference between Bermuda and Paspalum?

Re: Paspalum
I have Celebration Bermuda and it is nice but takes a lot of input to keep it looking "showroom" quality. I would install Platinum Paspalum in a second if I could find a local sod dealer that carries it. I am in eastern North Carolina.

Re: Paspalum
I have found a grower locally, so I am seriously thinking of renoing the grass strip between the side-walk and the road in SHP.
There is a massive jacaranda tree there so shade could be an issue, however it seems to tolerate filtered light much better than bermuda.

Re: Paspalum
If I ever redo my lawn or move to a new house SP would definitely be in the top 3 choices for grass. I would like SP, TifSport or maybe even a mini dwarf bermuda probably Miniverde.

But will the savings in fertilizer and watering be worth it in the long haul.Southernguy311 wrote:Ok so here is the price breakdown:

Re: Paspalum
All signs point to yes. The only thing that concerns me at this point is being limited with herbicide use. Does Celcius say it's safe for Paspalum or will I have to go another route?

Re: Paspalum
Apparently you can use salt to control weeds.
