Thanks DFW, I love this thread
Is this a current picture of the grass dye? If so, I'm impressed with the color!

I loathe the giant transformer box in my yard.

Re: 2016 Southern Lawn Pics
dfw_ was it placed on the hell strip or someplace within the easement section of your setback from the street? Here's hoping that your tree roots won't interfere with the fiber in the future. I'm sure you are aware that your setback, in reality, isn't actually your property entirely. Hopefully, it was placed at the corner of your property. The next destructive behavior may occur when your neighbors request fiber cable connection to their home, depending of course, how the junction box/access point was designed. Maybe coax will be used, which doesn't require anything other than a shallow narrow trench.
Ahh..... the joys of Suburban living.
If allowed, painting it black will make it less noticeable, believe it or not. Good luck!

Re: 2016 Southern Lawn Pics
Double verticut and took the bull for her first proper cut last night at a conservative .200". I made a few more mod's to the groomer/vertictter by taking out the bedbar so it tends to drop debris now rather than be ejected into the grass box. Makes it a little un-tidy for clean up as I don't use the box on the GM. The verticutter works much more effectively now the bedbar isn't bottoming out and skimming along the grass. Means I can go a bit deeper and not tend to lift and tear the grass. Result is a much cleaner finish.
The GM is pretty bulky and clunky to use in my small yard and I have trouble getting into the corners where my old mower can easily go. I also have a little trouble making my passes correctly as I can't see the front roller. I will put some marks on the deflector to help as I get more comfortable using it.
I am thinking about perhaps having a defined 'low-cut' area a few feet from all the edges and then clean up those areas with the old mower. I am going to verticut it again tonight to thin it out and start winding the GM down to see what she can really do. Goal is an 1/8" by the end of the season.

Simon.....killing the lawn game bud, great yard. What was your prep procedure for the ground to make it so smooth and level?

I think he poured concrete before laying artificial turf.Main_sail22 wrote:Simon.....killing the lawn game bud, great yard. What was your prep procedure for the ground to make it so smooth and level?
From my perspective with a cool-season turf, that's the only possible explanation!

Thanks everyone.Main_sail22 wrote:Simon.....killing the lawn game bud, great yard. What was your prep procedure for the ground to make it so smooth and level?
I actually broke every rule in the soil prep book and tilled before I planted. I only found this site after I did that, but I was lucky that it has not settled into a bumpy mess. It has had a fair bit of sand over the last few years and gets verticut and cored regularly which has helped to smooth it out.
