Newbie
New to the site, just wanted to introduce myself. I'm Dan from SC, recently retired from USAF and finally have time to work on my lawn. In the past all i have done is mow to keep it from looking abandoned, lol, a little fertilizer, and some weed killer. My intentions for this year are to really get the yard looking good. I have already sprayed for weeds this year and put down some Scott's starter. Not sure what type grass i have, so i added a pic hoping someone can help out. Had no idea about soil samples so i will be sending them off shortly. I will post some yard pics tomorrow. Thanks and HELLO! Glad I found this forum. Can ya'll tel what type of grass I have by theses pics?

Re: Newbie
Does it have a lot of runners coming from the main plant? I'm on the fence between centipede or fescue, I'm leaning towards centipede though.

Mid 70's low 80's. Thanks for the help guys. I was about to buy a bag of Bermuda to seed some bare spots, guess I'll get the centipede. What if I buy Bermuda and seed the yard, will it take over?

Bermuda
That depends on a lot of things. Centipede and Bermuda have different needs in soil ph, shade, fertilizer, etc. Seeding Bermuda can prove to be challenging and if you lose a lot of it, sod might end up being cheaper. Have a read through the renovation forum and if you decide you want more information, you'll need to share things like budget, size of yard, (possible) soil test results, shade, etc. Welcome to BL/ATY!danmel96 wrote:will it take over?
