Re: BLSC
80oz shampoo?.....
Did you mean 80oz of SLS to make the large batch of concentrate? HERE: http://aroundtheyard.com/articles/154-s ... mates.html
Add the water first, then add ingredients to reduce foaming is usually the trick with any surfacant or soap! Mix with lid closed!
If going the shampoo route... then typically it is around 2-4oz per 1000sqft... which in my case is a couple bottles on 9k, iirc.

Re: BLSC
Click on the link next to the ingredient on the Article - SLS is the 'active ingredient' per say in Shampoo/Soap that makes it... 'work' It is also avaliable at places like Amazon (i woudl imagine places like Joanns or HobbyLobby????)
So using Shampoo (mostly water).... would be a poor substitute for that recipe. Unless of course you ommitted some amount of water.... which in which case.... "your off the grid"
The SLS and other bulk products used to make the mix helps keep the cost down while effectiveness high!
I would do some searches on the forum regarding the ingredients and the mix... since there have been some clarifications/tips since that was posted back in teh day. (powder vs liquid... etc.....increasing amount of Yucca.....)

Re: BLSC
ajmikola,
I highly recommend using SLS powder instead of liquid (and certainly instead of baby shampoo) to make BLSC. It's by far the cheapest solution. Read the following old thread on where to source it (Bramble Berry) and at what rate to use it:
Sodium Lauryl Sulfate--New Option!

Re: BLSC
Make sure you're doing your calculations right. After some research on here a year or so ago clarifying powder vs liquid, I came away with the following:
(**Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong!**)
Soil Conditioner (Powder) - 1 oz (28 grams) powdered yucca. 4 oz (112 grams) powdered SLS dissolved per gallon (128 fl oz) of water.
With 128 fl oz, you've made enough to apply over 64,000 sq ft. That's about 20 treatments for a lawn my size. If you've spent $100 on ingredients, that's still $5/treatment.
How big is your lawn? If you fill it out in your profile, it can help the members of the forum provide more suitable advice.

Re: BLSC
Yeah. With shipping, you should be able to get 5 lb of SLS powder for $40–45. It's a shame that Bramble Berry no longer carries the low-dust SLS powder, or any SLS for that matter. Instead, try Chemistry Connection (saveoncitric.com).

Re: BLSC
Baby shampoo is done INSTEAD of the BLSC, not as an ingredient. If you have a small area or don't need a lifetime supply of BLSC, give baby shampoo a try and see what it does for you.
