How much does Primo slow down growth?

Post by fp_911 » September 29th, 2016, 12:28 pm

My Bermuda is slowing down now that it's cooling off but I was wondering, how much does Primo really slow down Bermuda?

If I were to maintain at let's say 1" would I be able to mow weekly instead of the twice a week most people do?

What's frustrating with Bermuda is that if you let it go just a few days longer than you should it ends up cutting at the brown stalks. So I'm looking for a way where I don't have to worry about that happening each time I mow during the fast growing season.

What are the experiences of fellow Bermuda lawns here?

If you are mowing every 3-4 days right now, I think you would be able to maybe go 5-6 days with Primo. You could play around with the application rates and see if you could get 7 days. You may also want to look into cutting back on the Nitrogen too as that could help slow the growth some.

You 'should' be able to back up to once a week cutting with Primo. I was able to maintain once a week cutting this year. I had a few spots mainly around my neighbors property line that gets double the water and double the fert where my Mclane would have a tough time making it through.

As long as you are using 'recommended rates of N' and not getting a ton of rain you will be okay.

Thank you both for the responses. Trying to plan for what I'll be doing next year!

You won't regret it. Just be sure to check out the generics. They work just as good at a substantial savings.

And don't be afraid to get a bigger sprayer than you think you'll need. Remember it is monthly apps. Trying to stretch a small sprayer over too big an area can be miserable.

Yes it is a concentrate. I have common Bermuda and put it down at .75oz per 1000sqft so a gallon goes a long way. Hybrid bermudas doesn't even need that much. I use a generic called Podium. It's actually made by the same company that makes Primo Max with the same % of AI.

Other than Podium, T-Pac and T-Nex.

Your 419 will only use about .38 oz. per 1000 square feet a month.
