Watched it turn white. We haven't had a bad winter in general, but the damn swings are beating me into submission. We have had lows down to 14*, but were 80* on Christmas and 73* on Jan 1. Snow today but we are supposed to be 72* again on Tuesday. Weird...

Re: 2017: What did you do on your lawn today?
I must have a very cold hardy variety of St Augustine at this new house. We had temps in the mid 20s and it stayed green; however, for the past two weekends it dipped into the high to mid teens. This last weekend we had an hour at 14 degrees and many hours in the high teens. That turned it all tan. The grass I had in San Antonio would turn tan after a few hours in the high 20s. This week we're expecting temps to get back to the high 70s.

Ran the rotary one last time to pick up pine needles and leaves.
Added some fuel shut off valves to all of my mowers and other small engines.
Ran the gas out of those engines in prep for winter.
Started thinking about the spring scalp

Tried to convince my neighbor that there's no real correlation between the Mole in our yards and Mole Crickets. So many people get hung up on this because they have the word Mole in their name.

Re: 2017: What did you do on your lawn today?
Lots of leafy weed in the yard as I carried no pre-emergant through the winter. I used the weed hound to take out *all* the pao annua I could find (grassy weed). I'll get the other leafy weeds with an agressive scalp, pre-emergant, and spot Celsius later.... I just do not allow POA annua to go to seed if I can help it and the hound is the best way.... Took about an hour and a half...

I decided to scalp my front yard since it is ridiculously warm today. I also decided to forgo any preemergent application due to a very mild and dry winter. I will also spread Yukon Bermudagrass seed in a test plot of common Bermudagrass to see if it will yield any results.

Nice to see another OKC person in here. I'm down off of SW 134th.basokc wrote: ↑February 11th, 2017, 3:18 pmI decided to scalp my front yard since it is ridiculously warm today. Today was almost hot but we have a couple of lows in the 30's coming up too. So that's keeping me at bay on scalping.

Put down Prodiamine at 1/4 max rate on my 12k sq ft of Bermuda. Plan on aerating once it's in full swing growing, so I'll have to do another 1/4 rate again after I do.

I feel crazy but my Bermuda and zoysia are starting to green up. I ended last season with my rotary so I did a scalp on its lowest setting and then made one cut with my reel.

Re: 2017: What did you do on your lawn today?
This morning I sent some dirt to Logan Labs.
I've felt like I should have put down a pre-emergent about three weeks ago. Last week I saw some buds on the neighbors Bradford Pear and this week I saw a crab apple in full bloom.
Tonight, I took soil temps - at 4" the average reading was 61.9F. This would explain the dandelions and clover that are popping up. Despite that I feel like I'm too late, I went ahead and applied BCF turf fertilizer with Dimension 0.22% FG (0-0-7) using the Scott's Edgeguard Mini on setting 2-1/2. I pre-weighed the product and had about 1/4 lb. leftover after covering 13,500 square feet of turf. The setting seemed about right. Planning to reapply in late April or early May.

Re: 2017: What did you do on your lawn today?
I scalped the back yard, aerated, and put down some fertilizer, bug killer, and pre-m. I'm trying to get to the front yard on Friday.
I'm seeing a little green in the back yard since it faces south and gets more sun. Soil temps are right at 50F.
