Prodiamine tips?

I have never used this stuff...any tips gained from your experiences?

I have a boomless ATV sprayer I use for glyphosate at the deer lease and plan to use it for the Prodiamine. Tank gets completely washed out after each use so no worry about residue. Will this sprayer be ok to use for this? I would rather use this than my backpack sprayer due to my yard being so large.

This stuff is granular? Does it mix fairly easily? Last thing I want to do is clog my sprayer?

What soil temps do I need to look for or spray before the soil temp hits what temp?

I read on another post that soil temp can be checked using a meat thermometer...is this pretty accurate?

Not a warm season grass guru, but application techniques don't change. You'll probably want to look at timing, amounts, and frequency from other warm season members as to what the best practice is. I've often seen them make multiple applications over the longer growing season you all have - we call this split application.

Up north we apply when the forsythia blooms. It's the best indicator of when crabgrass is about to germinate. Soil temperatures factor into that, yes. Some people here use an online site to gauge when it should be done - but that is more general and not as specific to your yard's micro climate. You want to get it down BEFORE your weeds emerge obviously. My opinion - especially if you're doing split applications - is that earlier is better.

The Prodiamine 65 WDG product is exactly that - "Wettable Dispersible Granule" - it is designed for mixing with water and does so well. The amounts applied are very small. You'll want to make sure you're applying the recommended amount in enough water, and water it in afterwards per the label. Watering in is very important for effectiveness.

The ATV sprayer will do fine!

Have you calibrated your sprayer? Do you know how much it puts out over a given area at a given speed? I know you said that you use it with round up but with prodiamine you will want to be a little more accurate on your application.

No sir...with the glyphosate, I just keep it at a steady speed and spray til empty!

I would mark off an area like 1-2K and add some water to the tank and spray that area and see how much water you use so then you will know what your application rate is. Does that make sense?

The manufacture should have a ballpark on what it should spray per 1000sq ft at a given speed and pressure

MQ is wise recommending practice. Prodiamine is something that can damage your roots if over-applied.

Kelp Help and BLSC are pretty safe to apply at reasonable levels with very minimal risk too.

What I personally do is go over the entire property with just water. If you do test spots you might go faster/slower than you would over the whole thing. Some people will say do it on your driveway, but you walk different on lawn than pavement.
