Zoysia dry areas help
Hi all, I've been reading and looking at all your amazing lawns and I thought I'd reach out for an assist. I have zoysia (empire I believe) that was planted a couple years ago now as sod. One area down hill seems to dry up much faster than other parts of the lawn. I'd like to level everything this season but I want to make sure the grass is healthy before I tax it with sand. I am in Miami with lots of sun. Soil is very fine sand under the sod. What are my options to make the grass retain more water in this area? Pictures attached.

your picture linky no worky.
How large of an area are you talking about? If it's small, can you dig up the area to see what's underneath the grass there? Maybe a large rock or some type of debris?

The area is about 15'x15' so pretty big. I tried to aerate with my manual aerator (metal stick with 2 prongs, and I could barely get through 1" so the ground is very compact. What is the best way to relieve this compaction, should I rent a core aerator?

Yes, I would run the core aerator over it a few times and top-dress with some organic compost/soil. Just make sure all of the proper weights are on the aerator before you run it.
A soil test wouldn't be a bad idea as well. I doubt the sandy soil holds fertilizer well.
