Emerald Zoysia yellow patches

Post by Jamesthompson1025 » May 4th, 2017, 11:15 pm

Hello, this is my first post here. Thanks in advance for reading. I have, what I believe to be, Emerald Zoysia in my yard and have recently noticed a horrible looking yellow patch. The grass got to be a little bit tall and after I cut it I noticed the patch. I also have similar looking circular areas in another part of my yard that is Zenith Zoysia. I live near Atlanta, GA.

Hard to say for sure just from the photo.

But I suspect the culprit might be in your photo. Dog urine can kill grass, especially something like Zoysia which doesn't like high nitrogen regimes.

I concur with TT. I have Zeon Zoysia, and the grass shows the exact same symptoms as mine after my dogs use the bathroom on it, significant thinning of the blades and almost a translucent yellow.

That could very well be dog urine or a spill of some type of household cleaner, oil, or gas. Not anything related to disease or turf problems. Whatever the substance it has burned and killed the area. It should fill in over time, assuming the dog finds another area or nothing else is spilled... whichever the culprit!
