too late to apply fall preemergent?

Hello, I am a newbie to lawn care so please bear if this is common knowledge. I am trying to follow the Bermuda Triangle approach and applied some Prodiamine preemergent today (Oct 3rd). I am in Cary, NC and was wondering if it was a bad idea to apply it this late?

There is a "Triangle Approach" article and a "Bermuda Bermuda Bible", but they have never known each other in the biblical sense.

Labor Day is the rule of thumb that I use for applying preemergent. Since you have already applied preemergent, you will have to monitor if your timing was on target or too late. Night time temperatures are a good indicator when the winter weeds will start to germinate. When the overnight temps dip into the 50's is usually the trigger that starts germination. I usually look for henbit to determine if germination has occurred.

Also, thank you basokc - yes I will keep an eye out for new germinations. I did also apply some Celsius on a few of the weeds that were already present (although I am not sure again if that was a good thing to do as I am still learning to identify the weeds as to whether they were summer annuals that were about to die or winter annuals or perennials..)
