How to Beat Sedge

Post by craving77494 » October 9th, 2017, 2:56 pm

I have what I think is a BAD sedge infestation after working hard to rid my TIF419 of almost all weeds. If the below image is indeed sedge what is my best approach? Considering I am in Houston, TX and the Bermuda will likely go dormant in the next month I am wondering how to beat this horrible weed for next year?

Options I am thinking of:
1.) Go ahead and buy the Sedgehammer now and spray before dormancy
2.) Wait until Spring (Feb) and spray then along with my planned pre-M application ( Prodiamine 65 WDG Generic Barricade 65 WDG)

Here is a pic of the culprit:

Sedge Hammer is awesome! I have sedge pop up in little certain areas and this destroys it and nothing comes back!

Spray it sooner, rather than later! There's never really any advantage to giving a weed more time to grow and spread. Especially not a sedge which will set more and more nutlets amongst the roots!

Concur with above. Spray now, hit it with a sedge-specific herbicide like Sedgehammer, AI Halosulfuron-methyl. I used Hi-Yield Nutsedge Control (same AI) earlier this season on nutsedge and it knocked it in one application. Much easier than the multiple Triclopyr treatments I've tried before with less efficacy. Make sure you use surfactant and let it sit on those leaves for a good, long time.
