Seashells in grass?

Post by theglassguy » October 15th, 2017, 6:13 pm

I’ve found a few of these small seashell looking things in my back yard. Are they something land-locked-related or could they actually be seashells?

See picture...

...it’s hard like a seashell with an opening on the “mouth” of the “shell” on the other side.

Excuse the orange gloves, I just put down some chemicals. Safety first.

Looks like a snail shell. Snails are very common in soil.

Looks like a snail shell to me. There are snails that live in the land.

It does indeed appear to be a snail shell (thanks). Should I be concerned I’m finding these around the yard?

I recently sprayed for grubs with Imidacloprid (aprx. 1.5% by liquid volume), will that take care of these - pretty small (quarter to half inch) - sized snails?

Does this species of snail cause damage to the lawn? They must eat something.

I don't know why my reply posted twice.

I did a quick google search and didn't see anything that points to snails eating grass. I found this link that tells what they do eat: http://www.snail-world.com/what-do-snails-eat/

I don't know if grub killer would affect snails or not. I used to have a lot of slugs and snails (they went away when I switched to native grasses and basically stopped watering). If I remember correctly, there are products specifically aimed at killing grubs and snails.
