I am in Knoxville, TN. Considering sowing TifBlair centipede and maybe even doing some sod this year from SuperSod.
Has anyone in zone 7a had success (or failure) with TifBlair centipede?
I sowed a small test patch -- about 200 sq. ft. -- last summer. Sowed it in good topsoil in a spot that gets about 70% sunlight and 30% dappled sunlight. No irrigation... just rain.
We had an average winter.... wetter than normal, but average temperatures. The lowest night time temp we had was in the low teens and we stayed in the teens and 20's for about a week before it warmed up. We had a couple of snows with 2 to 3 inches accumulation.
It never went dormant. And it looks amazing the last 3 or 4 weeks. Very dense, carpet like and it seems to be filling in nicely. It has also stayed quite short. Hasn't been mowed yet, whereas my fescue and ryegrass has already been mowed weekly for about 6 weeks.
Thoughts? Is this just a fluke with the Tifblair? Or might it work all over?
I intend to do a larger test patch this month. I have about 3 acres of grass, so I have plenty of places to test stuff out.
Thanks for any feedback.

PLEASE keep us informed about this project. Centipede has been the traditional grass used where nothing else would grow. It loves highly acidic soil...or so we have been telling people. It never needs fertilizer...or so we have been telling people.
