Green grass is now brown grass

Post by craving77494 » July 5th, 2019, 4:07 pm

I have a bit a puzzler on my hands, and hope someone can provide some guidance.

Background
Grass: Bermuda Tiff 419
New house in 2013 approx. 2000 sqft. of lawn front and back
Mower: Ego 20" Push
Mow Height: 1.5" (same since I moved in)
Last Fertilization: 6/30/19 3 x bag rate of Milorganite
Previous Fertilization: 5/15/19 2 x bag rate Milorganite
Last Pesticide: 5/10/19 Spectracide Triazicide (hose end sprayer)

Been mowing at the same height every 3 days for 2+ years and suddenly the grass is brown after cutting. Not sure what the cause could be? I just sharpened the blade hoping it would help, but it did not. It has been a bit rainy here in Texas but also very hot. Deep water weekly and use the screwdriver test to check water penetration.

This was last year

And now

I do not see any bugs, other than the few little white flies that scatter when I mow.

Too much Milorganite? If so how to fix?
Bugs?
Dull blade?

I am at a loss........

3X bag rate? That's pretty stiff, but I doubt that would be it, unless you've done it repeatedly over a short timeframe.

When was the last time you scalped the Bermuda?

Yeah, I thought the Milo could be part of it, since I applied 2 x bag rate on 5/15 and 3 x bag rate on 6/30.

I scalped the lawn at the start of the season like normal. I did mow the grass when it was pretty wet, but that was a month ago. Could that have stressed the grass?

Looks like heat stress. You might want to recheck your sprinkler timing to get 1 inch. If all seems fine with that, you might want to try watering every 5 days instead of every 7.
