Leveling sand

Is river sand bad for Bermuda? A mulch company told me it is what I needed. I got a scoop and put it out. Then I started thinking about the small grains/pebbles and wondered if the river sand would dry soil out? There's no way to remove it. If it's bad, can I put regular white sand over the top?

Topic does not belong in "Lawn Basics 101" - it has been moved to "Warm-Season Grasses".

I don't see a distinction between most sands. There is a difference in measured grain size, but "regular" white sand has differences, too.

I've always heard that play sand and mason sand is the best for leveling, but to also mix it with soil. If you put down just sand the sand will get hot and dry your grass out quicker. I don't think I would use the river sand, unless it's been screened to remove rocks and pebbles.

Use masonry sand. The smaller particles help.

I have used fine sand and I've used generic (clay) kitty litter, which is extremely coarse. Both worked fine.
