New to the site. Been lurking for a while gathering info. Here's mine after a fresh cut with my Toro Super Recycler on lowest setting, around 1". Been following the bible since about this time last year when I had it all laid.

Re: Southern Lawn Pics
Thanks, all the neighbors hate me now, but they're too lazy to cut their yard 2 or 3 times a week. I'm on the verge of an addict, i've been lurking craigslist to get a powered reel mower to take it to the next level.

It looks great. Dumb question, what are those boxes in middle of the yards for?

Re: Southern Lawn Pics
It's our water well, we're between the city and the middle of nowhere. So no water bill for me Luckily I only have to water once a week anyways.

Re: Southern Lawn Pics
I have been using a rotary, but ordered a 27" Tru-Cut last week. It should arrive today. I will try to document my transition. I'm like you, I felt like I needed a reel mower to get it to the next level. I also started using Primo last week, so hopefully that will help with mowing frequency.bbowman wrote:Thanks, all the neighbors hate me now, but they're too lazy to cut their yard 2 or 3 times a week. Re: Southern Lawn Pics
I'm going to Africa for a Safari hunt in September so all my extra pennies are tied up for this year. But, my plan for next year is to topdress and get a reel mower. I don't want to go much lower, probably around 0.75", I just want it to look better and not have the crop circles.

Re: Southern Lawn Pics
Well, since we have such of dearth of the Lazy Man's grass on here (too lazy to take pictures, had to rely on Google), here's the old yard in Charleston. The Google drive-by is 2 summers ago, last summer I was deployed, so it wasn't quite as intensively maintained (only got cut once a month instead of... once a month).
I did pack the flower beds more fully and brought that one in front of the house out about 4 feet. However, I made the mistake of fertilizing in July and this picture in August shows the lawn barely keeping up with the heat. (This is a year after the above picture.)
There were actually feeder roots from that elm right near the front walkway and the lawn is recovering here from the trenching I did in July- I cut an arc all the way around the tree- root pruning like an apple tree? Work in progress:
Here's the backyard the day I got home, and another a month later...

Re: Southern Lawn Pics
Well, in August you could push it to a month plus a week if you really didn't want to sweat. The yard to the left of mine got mowed twice in 2 years.

Re: Southern Lawn Pics
OK.....I'll take the bait!!
Here are several pics of my backyard. My front is still in transition phase from the winter rye and doesn't look near as good. I'll try to get some pics of the front this tomorrow after I cut.
And speaking of cut, this is improved common (not sure what type) cut at 3/4" with a Jacobsen Triplex reel mower.

I can't believe all you buttholes that have been holding out on pics all this time!
Looks great, lawngeek!
And how about a pic of that mower, too. Bringing that up and not showing her to us is like saying, "Oh yeah......I'm also married to Jessica Alba.....", and not posting some pics!!!!!!!

Re: Southern Lawn Pics
lawngeek, you have a Jacobsen triplex mower like they use on golf courses? I can understand why with all that square footage you have to mow but I have to say I am a little jealous because that is a hell of machine.

Re: Southern Lawn Pics
Thanks Michael!!! Not to bad I guess for common bermuda. With no sprinkler system irrigation is challenging at times. Been researching the traveling type sprinklers.
Mighty, Yep! It's a Jacobsen Greens King IV. It's an older model but gets the job done. I'll need to rebuild the reels this year. I found it at an auction and paid a whopping $100 for the thing. I'll post pictures later.
JayK.....I maintain about 25k sq ft.....definitely keeps me busy.
Thanks Joe!!!!!
And how do I do the quote thing? I feel like such a dork posting like that!!!
Thanks
