Milo 6-4-0

Post by Maizan24 » June 23rd, 2017, 1:55 pm

I first started using milo last fall. When I got it the it was 5-2-0. Had trouble getting it this year when I was ready to apply some but found it at home depot and it was 5-4-0. Now Lowe's has it back in stock and it's a 6-4-0 bag. Does the composition change this frequent usually?

Interesting. Are you just viewing the Lowe's product web page, which notes 6-4, or do actually have a physical bag in hand that says 6-4-0? Milorganite.com makes no mention of a 6-4-0 consumer product, so I just assumed that Lowes.com had made a typo on the product page.

Milorganite.com explains on its FAQs page the recent change from 5-2-0 w/ 4% iron to 5-4-0 w/ 2.5% iron.

Was just going off the info on the website. Under the product info it also says it's 6-4-0. I might go take a look this weekend but it probably is just a misprint. Can't believe everything you read on the Interwebs right?

They changed the info in the bags. There was another thread with this info. Their label says "at least". They can't control the inputs, so they can't really control their outputs.

6-4-0 might be the small bags. 5-4-0 is the regular stuff now. It's actually more than 5% though, on average. It can be as high as 6%. because of that, I use 5.3% (something above 5 but below 5.5) as my number when calculating N ratios. On a large area, a few extra tenths of a percent add up and can make a difference.

The pro grade stuff is still 6-2-0...for now.

Green gets the gold star. 6-4-0 is the 5-lb bag.
