Encap Lawn & Garden Compost - SALE
Menards's has Encap's Lawn & Garden Compost (pelletized), on clearance, for $1.99 per 18-lbs bag. Encap is discontinuing the product, for lack of interest.
They also have Encap's Lawn Starter Mulch (pelletized), for $14.98 per 12-lbs bag. This is a great inexpensive seeding mulch for low pitch lawns, as no tackifier is included.
Enjoy!

Re: Encap Lawn & Garden Compost - SALE
I just checked the bag. There are emulsifiers for limited amounts of soil erosion. It should hold a decent slope, probably nothing over 5:1 though.

I just bought a bunch of bags of the compost. LoneRanger-- Did you buy some as well and if so did you water it in after putting it down?

Re: Encap Lawn & Garden Compost - SALE
thanks for the heads up! looks like a decent option for a little diversity in product.
Does it look pretty much like a normal fertilizer or closer to rabbit feed?
Looks like pretty limited availability... had to search a few stores online to find it.

I have a mild slop in my backyard renovation area for which this would be ideal. I'll see if my store has it. Thanks for the heads up!LoneRanger wrote:I just checked the bag. There are emulsifiers for limited amounts of soil erosion. It should hold a decent slope, probably nothing over 5:1 though.

The store in Chesterfield said "some guy came in and bought most of their bags over the weekend"... Wonder if that was LoneRanger! Finally found some after calls to 3 different stores.

Re: Encap Lawn & Garden Compost - SALE
Trying to decide if tho is worth it, if I can get a yard of compost for $28.00. Takes me about an hour to spread 1 yard. I like the idea of using my spreader, but I need to do the math on how many bags = the yard of compost.
I also realize that not everyone had a reliable source for compost. I'm fortunate to have it 3 miles from my house.

Re: Encap Lawn & Garden Compost - SALE
I did buy some. My irrigation doesn't go in until August, so I waited for mother nature to pee on it. However, on an established lawn, irrigation shouldn't be required.RomeoLawnLady wrote:I just bought a bunch of bags of the compost. I tilled it in(Kubota TLB B26 @ 6") with other amendments. I had to open up the compacted soil and remove the galactic landfill-debris the builder calls a finished grade. ! LOMBARDO HOMES SUX BALLZ ! I will put down another 2x in a few weeks.
It's a little more than just a compost. It has some ingredients(AST) that create micro pores in the soil as well as conditioner. It looks just like fertilizer and there are no layers in the granules. I opened my Lesco 36" up a little and hail-stormed the barren waste land.BoatDrinksQ5 wrote:thanks for the heads up! looks like a decent option for a little diversity in product.

It should work just fine for a mild slope. It's much less expensive than other seed mulch products. Trust me. I've priced them all. It adds a small amount of nutrients, as well as AST and SWT.HoosierLawnGnome wrote:I have a mild slop in my backyard renovation area for which this would be ideal. I'll see if my store has it. I cleaned out Chesterfield and Port Huron of both products. I'm going to check around this weekend at other locations.RomeoLawnLady wrote:The store in Chesterfield said "some guy came in and bought most of their bags over the weekend"... 1 bag(18-lbs) per K. I'll get the analysis for you in a bit.rydaddy wrote:Trying to decide if tho is worth it, if I can get a yard of compost for $28.00. Takes me about an hour to spread 1 yard. I like the idea of using my spreader, but I need to do the math on how many bags = the yard of compost.

Highly recommend this product at that price. Good company and products. I have personally used their Encap Pro Starter Mulch x 2 years with great success.

Re: Encap Lawn & Garden Compost - SALE
The closest Menard's has it (or the regular starter mulch without fert) but I found the 50 lb bags at a local garden center (Mel's in Escanaba). A better value (just under $30 for 50#) than the usual sale price of the smaller bags at Nards.LoneRanger wrote:Where did you source the Pro Starter Mulch?Ben wrote:Highly recommend this product at that price. Re: Encap Lawn & Garden Compost - SALE
I tried sourcing the Pro locally, but no one carries it in S.E. Michigan. It has fertilizer and a cross-linked tackifier, for steeper slopes than the regular. Other brands were more expensive locally and I don't need a heavy tackifier. PennMulch and Profile products were at least twice as much and covered less square footage.
Update: I was wrong. "Encap's Lawn Starter Pro" does not have a fertilizer package. I would definitely chose PennMulch or a Profile product if I wanted just a fertilizer package for seeding.

Luv the Kubota! The right tools sure help yard work. I hear ya about builders in general. Lambardo is building some homes not far from me and when we check out the new construction, see many areas that have cement dumped in the yard along with other debris. Have fun putting in the new yard!

Re: Encap Lawn & Garden Compost - SALE
I dug out concrete and asphault chunks for 2 years. I even found one last fall during the renovation.
Sorry, Indy people - I cleared out the 96th street menards of their few remaining bags. 38th street didn't have any. I left 10 bags at the south side menards.

Amazing how much price influences demand.
