Fall Urea - Onions
I live in CT and back in the day CT was famous for growing onions. Every Spring the onions come up through the lawn and I either hand pull them, dig them out or just mow them until they go away. This is my first year going Organic and I have thrown my second round of Urea down at 1 lb/k. Grass is exploding and the Spring onions have reappeared in full force, my lawn has onions everywhere. Anyone else have to deal with these? Any better advice besides digging them out?

Digging is a good start, but follow-up with post-emergents regularly over a couple of years is the only way to finish the job. The thin, waxy foliage is a real challenge to get the herbicide to stick. A sponge, gloves, lots of surfactant and either selective or nonselective herbicides both Spring and Fall are the secrets.

Thanks for the reply Andy - I'm going to incorporate this into my plan. I was also thinking about trying one of those Weed Hound jigs on the onions and see how it works out. For Pre-Emergent I was thinking about using Dimension early next Spring. I am totally open to any suggestions for Pre and Post emergent brands.Seeing these onion in the Fall is the strangest thing!

Pre-emergents are not very effective on Wild Onions and Wild Garlic.
