Cost vs variety?
I was looking to put down some alfalfa pellets late summer but looking locally, I would cost me around $15 a bag which puts me at $250 for a full application. I can get a pallet (50 bags) of baystate fertilizer for $175. Is it worth it for the diversity of alfalfa to pay more and get less? I would get 3 full applications out of a pallet of baystate.
I'd love your thoughts.

Go with the Baytate. The advantages of 1 alfalfa application aren't as large as that of 3 Baystate apps--even including the fact that the BS won't decay into quite as much OM.

Thanks Morph - I was leaning that way as well but if i can get the cost of the alfalfa down i'd still like to do it at some point. $15 a bad for 40# is a little much for the way i'm using it.
The baystate sure does stink though, thank goodness for some of this rain coming, hopefully it de-stinks my lawn!

Yeah, $15 a bag is high. I wait for my local Tractor Supply to run a special on it. ~$10-$11, then load up.

Agreed, I'm in for $10 a bag........its right next to the John Deere dealer so it gives me a reason to go there as well!GeorgiaDad wrote: ↑April 19th, 2017, 2:12 pmYeah, $15 a bag is high. I wait for my local Tractor Supply to run a special on it. ~$10-$11, then load up.

Yeah, keep shopping around. Don't know if you have any in your area, but there's a Rural King about 20 miles away from me that sells 40# alfalfa pellets for ~$9 and 50# cracked corn for ~$6. They sell the open bags cheaper too.

What do you think about this? Alfalfa and cracked corn together?

I would stick to the pure alfalfa pellets. That other mix has a lot of chemicals added. Not sure what it would do to your lawn. But if you want to experiment, let us know what happens. lol
