Chicken Poop

Post by schreibdave » September 5th, 2018, 3:04 pm

I have a new buddy with a chicken coop. I was thinking about asking him what he does with the poop. But before I do, is there any practical way to use it on a small home lawn? I have no idea what form or condition it's in. Presumably mixed with wood chips.

Pine shavings hopefully, rather than wood chips. Compost it first then spread on lawn or use in beds.

+1 Timmy. It ***must*** be composted - it is far too "hot" (capable of damaging the lawn by the nutrients if not composted).

You could dilute it into another fertilizer like Milorganite, soybean meal, or some other meal material. I don't know what proportion, but as a start I would not apply any more than 5 pounds per 1,000 square feet.
