ATY’rs...my local ag supplier is now stocked with Soundgro fertilizer (5-5-0) as a Milorganite replacement. The product is manufactured equal to Milo in Pierce, Washington.

My question to you folks is if anyone is familiar with the product and has used it? Also if anyone knows the iron content and is the iron chelated?

I have emailed and called the manufacturer but have not yet received a reply.

If it has iron they have to declare it on the bag. I dont know of it.

I found a 2010 nutrient analysis for Soundgro that shows 0.55% iron. Have yet to receive reply for my questions from the company. That small amount of iron is not encouraging for me to use the product. My lawn has a ph of 8 and needs that chelated iron for good green-up.

Update:

I spoke to reps of Soundgro via email. They state that their product is very similar to Milorganite and I should see the same results regarding greening of the lawn. I’m skeptical. Yesterday I applied Soundgro to the back lawn and Milo to the front. I’ll let everyone know the results in a a week.

Soundgro did not provide the greening-up of the lawn that Milo provides. I will be using Soundgro (less expensive than Milo) for my trees but not my lawn.

Do you think the difference was the iron content or the water soluble nitrogen content?

My guess is the iron content. Soundgro has 0.55% iron and Milo has 2.5% iron. My lawns high PH needs that chelated iron for greening.

That makes sense. Milo has 5x the iron.

Probably a good product for those that want the other nutrients other than Iron, especially if it can be had for less.
