Feeding the Hellstrip - OM ?

Post by mobiledynamics » September 4th, 2019, 4:58 pm

Hellstrip has got blacktop on one side and some concrete on the other....

I did give it a layer of compost on the overseed
Is there any benefits on putting down some alfalfa pellets.

The dirt in this area...whenever I have dug it, it's lifeless. Not a sign of worms, etc.
I dunno if there's any life in it. Maybe I'll just pre-soak the Alfalfa before I throw it down.

Put OM on the area often, and tell us about the worms in a year. Just pulling a weed sends them on a race for their lives.

Heh, not debating the merit's of OM ! This time of the year or soon, while everyone is busy putting their leave streetside, I'm going around @ pickup night to put them into my compost. Heh, that is one that I'm always short of...

I've wondered this many a times. If I see no worms, if I amend, etc. It's hellstrip so it get's the heat soak from both sides. Not really a hospitable place for the worms anyday. Me wonders if -one day- I will see worms..

One of my neighbors, the 83 year old lady, got into a confrontation with a neighbor about his leaves. There was a creek between his yard and hers, which was owned by the city. She was always trying to get something growing on the banks of the creek. One day she noticed the neighbor's yard guy leaving bagged grass/leaves at the corner next to the creek. She walked over, dragged the bags about 10 feet, and poured them onto her little bed she was working on. The neighbor came out and made a big deal about her stealing his grass and leaves. I don't know what she said, but he went away fuming. She continued to take the bags when they appeared. She's long gone now. Her legacy is a spineless prickly pear in the creek.
