Pennsylvania based bio-solid fertilizer? (milo alternative)

Post by mgarnto1 » April 14th, 2023, 12:39 pm

Hi everyone,

Does PA have an equivalent to milo? I know NJ has OceanGro but the closest location I'm seeing is a bit further than I have time to drive at the moment. The last time I was serious about lawn care (a couple of houses ago) I was paying 12 bucks full price and routinely 7 on sale for milo. It's 25 a bag now, and that just feels crazy since OceanGro is still selling for 8.00 a bag over in NJ.

So, is there something PA based like milo/OceanGro? If not, I guess I'll be paying 25/bag....

I'm interested as will. I'm in maryland and have found milorganite prices higher this year but not as high as you have. The only ones I have found have been ocean gro and I think DC sells something called bloom. Both are too far a drive for me.

Have a truevalue or other hardware store around? Milo is usually cheaper at those stores.
SiteOne has different organic products. Each store stocks different things though.

To my knowledge, there's not. I also noted the rise in price, muttered, "Well, you can keep that," and plan on checking soybean meal prices in May when I have time. EcoScraps, the closest competitor, had a similar price hike.

Scotts EcoScraps was already a bit higher per unit of nutrient.

I bought a bag of Milo a couple weeks ago. My local Ace store still had it for $15 in the Fall, all Winter and into Spring. When I went in to buy it, it was still $15, but now it said sale price, so that means they were going up, too (to $19). I've seen some prices as high as $25 recently (Home Depot). Average seems to be $20-21 in this area now. Looks like the pricing is considerably outpacing increases due to inflation.

Absolutely insane. I bought 30 some bags at less than $5/bag a few years ago.

I should have invested some retirement savings and flipped it.
