Chapin's new 20V Backpack Sprayer

Post by ENVY23 » May 22nd, 2015, 8:35 pm

Just stumbled across this, apparently it just came out. 4 gallon backpack sprayer with 20V lithium ion battery(Black&Decker battery so maybe interchangeable with their tools?). One charge sprays 50 gallons. Price point seems reasonable at $159(Northern Tool). Added it to my list of wants, maybe next year... Just figured I'd share if anyone's in the market for something similar.

That's fancy. I like it. The battery life sounds very good.

I really like my Stihl SG20 but if I had to do it all over again I would definitely look into something like this as pumping 5 gallons of fluid really wears your arm out.

I had already decided I wanted the Stihl, until I came across this in my email. Hopefully someone here will pull the trigger and give us some feedback. Definitely a good price point, other electric backpacks seem to be going for $250+.

I need a new backpack sprayer and have been looking for something powered. This may be in the garage soon... Anyone know what the threads are on this or if it compatible with the Tee-Jet nozzles without modification?

according to http://www.gatecfv.com/cfvalve/overview#specsheet1 they are generally 3/8 bsp thread and teejet is 11/16.

So after much debate I popped on this sprayer tonight

I have quite a bit of spraying coming up and the thought of all that pumping made me cringe.

I'm on a mission in my back yard to reclaim it from weeds. Crabgrass is already dying but the goosegrass is next.

I found that I actual look forward to when I am going to spray so I figured this would be a safe bet.

Definitely will look into modifying to Tee Jet tips with all the good reviews I've heard in here.

If someone wants to dummify the Tee jet parts I need and want to post them I would appreciate and will go ahead and order them to be installed before the first use.

Materials List

You may not need or want everything, like a new wand, but it will get you started. I've had decent luck with Sprayer Depot for the tips, caps, and wands, and Minnesota Wanner for the CF Valves.

I upgraded my wand from spraysmarter.com (mainly due to price) but they shipped same day and I received the package two days later at a reasonable rate (less than $6 for shipping). They are in the Indy area and I would definitely use them again. I got the 4688 trigger valve and 24" wand with sure grip handle and love it. Like dfw_pilot says you don't have to upgrade the trigger valve and wand though.

Please post your review of the sprayer after you get a chance to use it.

So far I like the XR nozzles for applying fungicide and herbicide. I also have some AIXR and floodjet nozzles but really have not had a chance to try them out yet.

So the sprayer supposedly puts out 35 psi regulated

I just need to get the adapter and tips correct?

Backpack arrived today via UPS

Opened it up and gave the battery a charge and put all the factory stuff together for now. Will give it a bit of a test run tomorrow.

No test run today as it started raining before I could spray the test area

I still need some assistance in selecting the proper cf valve, adapters, tips, etc. the list was helpful, but I need some help narrowing it into what I actually need.

When looking at the T-Jet tips, note that the tips are calibrated for different pressures to give volumes per minute. You can get a different Constant Flow valve to change the pressure on the tip. While $150 does seem to be a big increase from a $35 sprayer from HD, it is well worth it if you have more than 1,000 sft. to maintain are really trying to do everything to make it perfect.

I looked for a sprayer with a pump before I bought mine. The ones I found were in the $300 range and I did not want to spend that much. The Jacto sprayer I got does take a lot of Armstrong to get the four gallons on the yard.

Subscribing. Will be interested to see the review.

I've got a Teejet modified pump sprayer, but I like the idea of continuous pressure output. Having a consistent MPH without stopping would most certainly improve concentration on maintaining height and walking speed.

Grab yourself a constant flow valve and you can get the same effect using a pump sprayer.

That's what I currently have, but have to stop and pump it up. It seems to mess with my progress and my calibration goes awry due to walking speed!

I'm guessing you have a 2 gal sprayer? Do you use a shoulder strap? I can walk and pump my 2 gal when I use a shoulder strap.

Get this TeeJet tip.

Get this TeeJet cap.

Get this nozzle body.

Get a couple CF Valves. I like the 15 psi yellow because I use a 1 gallon hand pump sprayer. If you use a backpack, you might like the 21 psi red one. I got both, just make sure they are 11/16ths thread.

You'll also be happy with this wand, this trigger, this handle, and this swivel barb. For extra credit, you can buy a strainer to cut down on clogs.

Drop the tip into the cap, and the strainer into the nozzle body. Screw the cap into the nozzle body and connect the body to the CF valve. Screw the CF valve onto the wand and screw the wand onto the trigger. With Teflon tape, connect the trigger to the handle, and with more tape, connect the handle to the swivel barb. Clamp the barb to your hose and your off the the races.
