Scotts Pro EdgeGuard Broadcast Spreader
I just purchased this item last month. When I walk with the hopper empty the bottom plate turns like it should when the wheels are turning. However once I put material into the hopper (only a pound or two 1/4 full) the bottom plate does not turn when I walk with the spreader. I have called Scotts and they are sending me a new turning plate (excuse my terminology as I know its called something else, but its what spits the seed out). Have you guys ever had this issue?

Is it missing a cotter pin to hold the plate to the shaft?

Not sure. I will check when I get home. Do you happen to have a picture where this is located?

I second the missing cotter pin. The pin in my spreader broke off and did almost exactly as described by the OP. I replaced the pin and it worked fine again.

Have had this spreader for 2 seasons. No problems or issues with it. I wash it out after every application and then let us dry out in the sun before it goes back to the shed. Haven't even needed to put new air in the tires, yet.

I have the same spreader and the same thing happened to me, on the first day of use. The problem is in the wheel hub and axle. The wheels will spin but not the axle. I forget how I fixed mine, but it is just poor design by Scotts.
Unsnap your wheel hubs and see what I am talking about. Try pushing them in better. I use mine on a small drainage ditch slope and one of the hubs actually fell off in use.
I will try and take a look at mine after work to see if I can explain better.

Wow, thought I was being helpful, but just realized this is in response to a very old thread...
