Weeks turf auction Dec 13th

Post by Pete1313 » November 4th, 2016, 3:42 pm

I know it's alittle over a month away, but I thought I would share. Weeks is having its 8th annual turf equipment auction on December 13th. There looks to be a boat load of reel mowers going up for auction. Hopefully with the amount that will be available, they will go for a decent price. :hello:

Sorry forgot to add that.. but if the price is right you can have it shipped, or take a road trip for that early Xmas present. :D

Pete, thanks for the heads up!
Any hints for us rookies?!!! What to expect? what's a good deal? What have you bought in the past and how much did you pay maybe? What was the condition of the mower?
I'm looking in buying either a toro 21 or John Deere 220.

I bought a 2011 john deere 220SL from the weeks auction about a year ago. Paid $500 for it. It was in great condition and all I had to do was backlap it. As it gets closer to auction they should post more pics of each lot. Also if there is anything major that is wrong, weeks does a good job of saying so in the description. As far as a deal, looking at the JD 220c I would expect $450 or so and for a 220b maybe $350. Anything under that would be a steal, and with the amount of JDs in this auction, hopefully they go cheap. Looking at some of the lots, they are still loaded on the trailers. So I can speculate that they came right off the course and are usually kept in good shape. I have no guess on what to expect on the toro, I know alot of members have them, maybe they will chime in on what to expect with those.

Thanks for the bump Scott. I had no intention of picking anything up from the auction, but followed it throughout the day as I like to see what the different machines are currently going for. I'm curious if anyone else was following the auction as well. My take is there were a few decent buys in there, but most of it went for higher prices then I've seen at past auctions.

I picked up a jacobsen walk behind for $150, Toro GM 1000 for $500 with a groomer, and a John Deere 180B for $250. They all looked to be in Okay condition. We'll see how good they work.
Im hoping in converting the toro into a verticutter. A lot of my bids were outbid and went for a lot more than what i wanted to pay. Im happy with my purchase, so far...

Well it looks like you are not an auction rookie anymore! Congrats! :yahoo: Looks like you found some nice machines at a decent price. Post up some pics when you get them. I bet you can't wait.

I know you were initially looking at getting a JD 220B or C, I bet you were just as amazed as I was at the prices some of them went for. IIRC, a couple of them with groomers went for $1400 or so.

This was my first auction and was able to pick up my first reel mower, a 180C for $250. We'll see what it looks like when it arrives and will probably take it to the JD Golf & Turf Equipment shop down the road from me and have them go over it as well.

Kevin, congrats on the new toy! I'm curious what you both will think of the JD greensmowers. :good:

Not a rookie anymore! haha! Well I drove 24hrs there and back and now I have 3 more reel mowers in my garage :D . I will take some pics tomorrow and post them. All 3 mowers look a bit banged up but after the longgggg drive, I was able to turn on the toro and Jacobsen and both sound healthy. I had no luck turning on the JD. Yea, I was looking for a 220b/c but I'm happy with the size of the mowers, I think the 180 suits my small lawn better.

Thanks mighty!!! Yes I got everything I wanted this year lol. So far all I have done is check the bedknife to reel clearance and the only one needing backslapping is the Jacobsen. I gotta say, wow, that was so easy to do! It took me forever to adjust the clearance on my mcclane.
I'm on my way to Mexico right now but as soon as I get back, I will be spending some time in my garage giving them a full tune up. I'm planning on cleaning up the toro and putting up for sale. I decided to keep the jd180b and the Jacobsen. The Jacobsen over the toro because it's just going to be a spare and because it has a grooming kit. Initially I bought the toro to convert it into a verticutter but I won't be needing it anymore. After I restore them, I might change my mind. I will post some pics as soon as I figure how to lol

John Deere 180B. HOC 1/16"- 1" approximately

Jacobsen greensmower. HOC 1/16"- 3/8"

Toro GM1000 HOC 1/16"-1" approximately

I got them all running but I had to order a carb kit for the Jacobsen and a new carb for the John Deere.
I cleaned out all the gas tanks, changed oil/spark plugs and cleaned out the carbs. Machines have a bit of surface rust but no major corrosion. Reel to bed knife were all asjusted and cut through paper cleanly. Overall I am reel happy with my purchase.
