Looking For A Spreader
I'm thinking about getting a new spreader this spring. I have a decent one now, but the tires are constantly loosing air, the material tends to clog at the bottom, and the height of the handle is a bit high. I came across this online at my favorite big box store and was wondering what you guys might think about it.
My mine cause for concern is that the spreader gear is metal and exposed to the elements. I worry that this might rust, however, from what I understand the manual does say to keep it lubricated which should help prevent that from happening.
It's an Agr-Fab 110lb. Push Broadcast Spreader.

I don't know much about the Agri-Fab spreaders. I looked at it and the gearbox is definitely fully exposed. But, if you keep it lubed and stored inside dry it shouldn't be a problem. It looks somewhat comparable to the Earthway 2170 which is what I purchased last year. Although it's $40 more.

I also noticed that the selector on the control cable is plastic. The white selector is meant to stay in place because of friction. In other words, you press it down, move it to the number according to the amount of material you want to fall onto the impeller, then let go. This seems like a very obvious wear part.
I'm staring to think that what I have now might be better. Here is a link to the Brinly spreader I have at the moment. It's only 6 years old, although like most guys on this forum it has been put through it's paces much more than the average spreader.

I decided to go with the Brinley. I found it on the Home Depot website for a reasonable price and I was able to use up a couple of gift cards.

The Agri-Fab you linked to is a solid product. Very well built.
