No sooner did I post this the first dealer responded! No rebates or offers on the 380 so I asked if they can do better on the pricing and listed out some accessories I was interested in..... I'll see what they say

He said there is nothing they can do on the price so unless he gives me a sweet deal on my trade then i guess its time to shop around.

So 3 of the 4 dealers got back to me. Looks like they will do $1,000 for a trade in my D140. The best I got on the 380 msrp was 2% off cash discount. Seems like they are not interested in negotiating there. I can also drive to NH and save the sales tax. Short of selling my machine on CL it looks like I'll only be able to negotiate the extras.

So just to update you guys. I'm going with the x380 and having the mulching kit installed on it. I'm going to hold off on the striping kit because i don't like how its always on the back of the tractor and i'm prob going to wait until i see how the grass comes in this year.

As for pricing, my nearest dealer is letting me walk for.....wait for it, $180. A $5,000 full boat price is his price and he won't drop it $180 to match the other dealer......unreal, it really is. Maybe the incentives for a tractor dealer are tied to full boat pricing but to lose a sale over $180 blows my mind.

Anywho, looking at next Friday for delivery as this weekend is to tight for me.

I'm excited!

Congrats! Make sure you get your standard lift blades back from the dealer since they are installing the mulch control kit and new mulch blades... It is sad how stubborn some dealers are.

Thanks Pete! I did confirm with him that it would come with the original blades due to the addition of the mulching kit. its funny that with my D140, the "mulching" kit was literally a discharge plug.....so primitive lol.

I'm going to be excited to cut grass now vs butchering it.

Now i just need my D140 sale to go through

You will love the mulch kit. It works really well. Just make sure you keep the blades sharp and the underside of the deck clean.

I went to Deere to buy a $5200 ztr last spring and they didn't give a hoot at all, I've had several demos and quotes with the owner too. I was quite pissed and haven't been back, they seemed to not care at all about a sale and I went to toro the next day and they bent over backwards to help me out even spent more than at Deere, they delivered it and add a striping kit for free. I've lost all respect for Deere dealers around me but I hope it's a different experience for you.

Thanks Eric! Comes this Friday and the grass will need it by then. I wanted it delivered right when I expected the grass needing a now so I can get some good cutting time in inside of JD's 30 day guarantee.

Tenacity is down and watered in, 16 bags of baystate down and a week of rain coming up. That outta get her going good.

You made a good choice! You are gonna love it! :good: ofcourse it is raining outside. :banghead: make sure it is dry out before you cut so you don't cake up the underside of the deck.

It looks like the x380 has the deck leveling holes just in front of the seat. Is the leveling kit under the seat? If so, now would be a good time to check the level of the deck. It's really easy with the kit. It should have been done by the dealer, but don't be surprised if it is off. Mine was. Also check the fluids, tire pressure(before you level deck), and set up the anti scalp wheels.

Make sure you take some pics after its first cut. Congrats! :hello:

Thanks Pete! It's in the garage now and I plan to get after it on my lunch break here. I need to familiarize myself with all of the features on this vs my D140. I'm really in awe at how different it is over my old one. Quiet, smooth, speed, power...... all improvements!

I'm planning to do an initial cut tomorrow afternoon so it should be dry out by then.

I'd like to thank you all for "pushing" me this way..... I really had no idea on just how much better of a machine I'd get so thanks!!!

Question on setting the anti-scalp wheels. i set the deck to 3.5" and then i dropped the AS wheels to the ground and then pulled them up a little until the latch caught. So the way they are now is that they are very close to the ground but shouldn't make the deck ride higher than the 3.5" setting.

Should i pull them up more or is that where they are supposed to be?

That's how I do it. I think there is a spec in the OM (1/2" iirc), but the way you did it is fine.

I might pull them up one notch because they are close to the ground......that's about 1/2".

I saw the leveling thing under the seat but need to see how it works. I put the level on the deck and it was dead on left to right but a small frontward slope back to front.

In the owners manual it tells you where to place it. If yours is similar, there are 2 dimples on the back of the deck (left side and right side) and then one spot on the front. When done right, the tool will make the left-to-right level and the back-to-front will be a little lower in the front (called rake).

I just picked up a JD X380 from the local dealer. Excellent machine. Tons of power, semi-upgrade trans. 4 year 300 hour warranty, and has an excellent cut.

My biggest issue, is that due to gates, I could only have a 42" deck. So the dealer swapped the 48" one to a 42" one for me. it still mows past the wheels, but, its kinda close. It also makes edging a bit difficult, but over all I love it.

Yes, seems to be a great machine. I think the k58 is the best you can get before you get really serious into one but for my use its probably overkill, which i like :)

I can see how the 42" would be a little rough on the edging stuff since it probably doesn't stick out much.

I'm glad you say it has an excellent cut.....that's what i'm looking for!
