Mclane problem - blades not spinning.

Post by Yossarian » June 27th, 2017, 2:39 pm

Hey everyone,

So I was mowing yesterday and the Mclane started making a squealing noise and the blades no longer spin. I removed the cover over the chain that connects to the clutch. It seems like the chain is slipping over the sprocket instead of engaging. The chain is pretty loose. I think the chain may just be worn out. Have any other Mclane owners had this issue?

I own a McLane, but have not had that issued. A loose chain does make sense. If that is happening then I would guess that the sprocket itself may be worn down too.

Yep. There is nothing left of the sprocket. It looks like the part is $70 from Sears. Dang it.

I would check Ebay or another outlet like that. I think you should be able to find it cheaper.

I finally got the parts but I can't figure out how to put the new chain on. It's like it's too short. I'm not sure if there is some sort of trick, but I'm dumbfounded.

I posted an answer but it went into the twilight zone again.

Look to see if the chain has a wired looking link. If so, that's a disconnect link (it has a fancy name that I can't remember). You are not the first one working on Mclane, there should be some info in the web.
