Increasing hose pressure

Post by flyin-lowe » September 11th, 2017, 8:40 am

I am not a plumber so this might sound like a dumb question but is there any type of device (electric pump??) that can be put inline on a garden house that would increase the water pressure? I am planning a reno that is about 550 foot away from my house. My well pump can run a sprinkler near the house but when I stretch hoses out that far it doesn't do anything but spew water out a couple feet. I am trying to come up with a way to get water on it before I throw out hundreds of pounds of seed. Last time I let mother nature take care of it but I have had my soil ready for weeks and it has not rained any. Right now there is a day or two of rain in the forecast from Irma but after that it is showing no rain until the 2nd week of October. I know that can change but I have an acre I am doing so I need some water. I don't really want to let it sit until spring but I am not going to spread the seed and let it just blow away either. This is the one part of my yard that floods in some places during the spring so I was wanting to get it seeded in the fall.

Any other thoughts???

550' is pretty far. What about using a wider diameter hose while keeping it really straight to minimize pressure loss?

I considered that and might go that route. I just hated to spend the money to buy 3/4 inch garden hose to go 550-600 feet. Not sure what I'll end up doing.

They make pressure boost pumps, but a decent one gets pretty pricey

They make pressure boost pumps but they can get a little pricey for a decent one. Might be worth it depending on cost of the 3/4" hose, keep in mind you will have points of restriction where the connections are anyway so a boost pump might be your best bet anyway

OK Ill check into boost pumps. Yeah I just checked at Lowes and the 3/4 inch hose was $59.99 for 100 foot. That adds up if I need 6 or 7 to reach everywhere.

I found these at my local rural king. I am going to call the manufacturer to see if it will work for this application. In the description it says it's used to pump water from tanks etc. But on the box and in the directions it shows it being in line in a garden hose between the house and sprinkler.
I don't know if something like this would cause a problem with my well/pressure tank??

Sorry the link didn't attach. I called the company and they didn't recommend running this from the garden hose. They said it was designed to pull water from a tank or pond or something. Still trying to find something. I might try to find a tank but I am not sure how much water it would take to keep an acre of seed moist.
