Boom Sprayer Recommendation

Post by PSU4ME » July 5th, 2018, 2:28 pm

Hi All,
I am a believer of all the preventative bio-fungicide programs and the addition of KH and BLSC sprays to the lawn and with them being a "non specific" type of spray (meaning a little extra/less here or there won't hurt) they lend themselves to a "bulk spray" method. Not to mention, Serenade should be applied by itself and not mixed.

So with all that said, i'm not a fan of mixing up 7 backpacks and walking 30k sqft all the time......I need a pull behind boom sprayer or something to that effect.

I'd like something to pull behind my tractor to where i can apply those types of sprayer much easier and i was thinking of a boom sprayer.

Have any recommendations or ideas of other products that might help?

I have my battery powered chapin backpack sprayer but i'm looking for something even easier.

Thanks in advance!

I use a 25 gallon towable, it's not perfect. Recently ordered a replacement pump, which I've read is not uncommon. It's a fimco. I would say if you are planning on really using this thing spend as much as you can afford.

And filter everything you run through it, even when you think you don't need to....

Oh, those Fimco pumps have the lifespan measured in hours. I replaced mine "down" to an American-made 1.8 gpm from their 2.1 unit. The platform is fine and so is the tank.

What brand/platform are you guys using? I'm fine with it being up to $500 so if we are within that I should be good.

Do you guys use it for specific sprays or general ones?

The Tractor Supply Corp (TSC) products - I think there is a 15-gal and a 25-gal (not sure)

I ended up buying the unit that sits and connects to the back of my John Deere, LP22861. I liked the idea of a more maneuverable unit vs the tow behind. I'm sure i overpaid but i have a tendency to do that for convenience!

PSU4ME: how are you liking this sprayer? It won't fit my mower, but your input might still help me as I continue to deal with my Fimco that is eating pumps...

I ordered the same sprayer as PSU4ME around the same time. We both used it once so far(AFAIK) and had the same impression that it's very good for general spray.
I personally love the sprayer. For my 30k yard, it took me 3 hours with a backpack sprayer to put down Prodiamine. With this sprayer, it takes ~30mins to cover the 30K yard. I also like the spraying wand. Very fine mist.
The manufacturer of the sprayer is Superior Tech. John Deere just put their name on it. It's too early to call if the pump unit is reliable or not but if you really want it, you can call a JD dealer and ask them about getting the pump for you. You can also call Greenpartstore.com and ask them to get the pump for you. They should know what to order but the pump unit is number 53 in the assembly diagram of LP22861 sprayer.

For those of you that aren't afraid to "Do It Yourself" here is a source of "surplus and overstock" pumps that is a discount over regular new sources. The seller has been around forever and I have bought stuff from them and they trade extensively with a local electronics surplus place here in St.Louis that I have been patronizing since 1959.

I just got a good deal on one of these from the local TSC but I haven't got to use it yet. I will only use it a couple times a year so hopefully I can get a few years out of the pump.....

Today I bought and assembled a Fimco 30 Gallon Trailer Sprayer from Tractor Supply. I will be first to admit that sprayers are my least liked pieces of lawn equipment, they just don't seem to last. I really wanted one of the new Chapin 97761 Sprayer Mixes on Exit 25 gallon Tow Behind sprayer but could not find one today and I think most stores around here in CT may be closed the next two weeks.

I will keep this thread updated with my experience on the Fimco 30 Gallon Trailer Sprayer and welcome updates from the former posters.
