Value for Used Zero Turn

Post by GregGeis » August 27th, 2020, 10:26 am

I found a deal I’m looking at for a Scag Freedom Z with a 48” deck and 19HP Kawasaki with 260 hours. It’s been residentially used, seller is the second owner and doesn’t know what year it is but thinks about 10 years old. It looks like it’s been stored outside for a bit.

Looking around at other similar models it seems like an ok price for the hours but the age should probably knock it down some more. Any idea how to value it or tips when checking it out (or whether or not you recommend that mower at all)? I was going to check the spindles, belts and oil, make sure everything seems to be in place but I’ve never owned or operated a zero turn before.

This is listed with a 19HP Kawasaki engine and from what I’ve seen that was probably around 2007-2008. My biggest concern would be even though it’s low hours was the engine oil ever left unserviced too long. A new engine would be the big ticket item.

I have the 52" Tiger Cat II and a 48" SWZT. I would say $3000 is to much would be closer to $2000.
