Push Spreader Recommendations

Post by GermanShep » August 23rd, 2021, 8:29 am

I am looking into upgrading my spreader to a higher end spreader than my Scotts broadcast spreader which has seen better days. What is everyone using for a push type broadcast spreader? Looking to get some recommendations in the 80# spreader size or maybe even 100# capacity size. I am really looking for something that pushes easily on the the slope my side lawn has. Tires are an important consideration for me so it rolls more easily.

Thanks in advance for any feedback I could get.

I have a sloped lawn. I went from a Scotts Elite to LESCO 80# spreader. The LESCO is much easier to roll up the slope.

I have the Earthway 2170 and love it. No matter which brand you get, two things that I consider mandatory are tall, narrow tires and a metal pushrod to open the hopper. Tall tires don’t sink in every little hole/divot in your lawn, and narrow tires have less resistance to push than wider tires. As for the pushrod, many cheaper ones have a cable operated gate to open/close the hopper, and over time the cable will bind, fray and stretch. The metal pushrod is a super simple design with nothing really to go wrong. I think as long as you find something with those two things, you probably got a decent spreader regardless of brand. Earthway, Lesco, and Spiker are all good brands.

Earthway 2170 +1. I have had it for three years and it works great.
