Trapline Mole traps - product review
As many know, I am currently at war with the moles. They are wreaking havoc in my lawn and it is getting worse every year. There are now well established mole tunnels underneath the turf. I kill off a bunch and neighboring moles find these highways and start the cycle of destruction anew. To date, I have tried harpoon traps (meh!), scissors traps (not too shabby) and came across these Trapline traps last year when the animal warden stole my scissors traps for 6 weeks. To cut to the chase: These trapline traps flat out work!
These traps are small, made of stainless steel, and are designed to fit in a mole tunnel. For well established tunnels, they fit easily. For newer tunnels, you have to massage them in. You must place one trap in each direction. The trigger is very sensitive! If a mole enters that tunnel and tries to pass, you can bet it will be met with certain death. For placement, I find a mud pile overlying a tunnel and carefully lift it off the turf with a shovel, thereby exposing the tunnel.
Just checked this hole today and got a double whammy--two moles going in opposite directions!
Summary: TRAPLINE TRAPS
Price: 4 for $37 shipped (ebay or website)
Erio Rating: 5 Stars (excellent)
PROS: small, easy to use, won't cut your fingers off or stab you, stainless steel, very effective, reasonable price
CONS: must use two traps per placement, must have access to tunnel
I have no relationship to this company or product in any way except for being a satisfied end-user.

Just curious, are moles like Raccoons in that if you can remove their food source they won't destroy the lawn (in my case it was grubs).

I believe the predominant food for moles are worms.

Did you go with the standard or large size?
Also, did you order directly from trapline?

Re: Trapline Mole traps - product review
I agree...these traps are amazing. I've caught 7 moles in 7 days with them. Prior to using Trapline traps, I had bought several other traps at the local hardware and gardening stores, including the scissor-like traps and the spike plunger traps, and after 3 weeks I had only killed one (well, two actually but the second I killed by stomping my foot on it). These Trapline traps are the real deal.

Good to hear!
I have 4 of these traps waiting in the wings, but right now I am too bad a$$ with the Victor Out O' Sight.
If I set one, a mole will meet its maker within 8 hours. Too superstitious to switch just yet.

Re: Trapline Mole traps - product review
Would these traps work on voles or shrews, which are somewhat smaller than moles. I was able to kill 7 or 8 shrews last fall with mouse traps but now the tunnels have returned. I'm not sure if it's shrews again since I haven't been able to locate any holes, just tunnels. They are doing some major damage (like this summer's drought didn't do enough?) and I want to get medievel on them. Thanks!

Yes, sir. http://www.traplineproducts.com/voles.html
On a not necessarily trapline, but mole related not, caught another one this morning in the neighbors yard with the victor.

Re: Trapline Mole traps - product review
The Trapline traps will work on shrews. The reason I think this is because after trapping about 6-8 moles in my backyard, I am now catching these smaller things that I thought were baby moles, but now that you mention it I think they might in fact be shrews. Either way, the Trapline will catch anything that is traveling through a mole run, whether is a mole, baby mole, shrew or your finger. My mole/shrew count is now at 12 in the last 17 days. It has slowed down quite a bit the last week. My lawn is finally growing healthily for the first time since we moved into this place. Grass looks strong and healthy. I have nothing but good things to say about these Trapline traps, especially having spent over $100 on other traps that didn't do a darned thing. I killed just as many moles with my feet (1) as I did with $100 worth of other "top" mole traps (1).

Thanks! I was able to locate a couple holes and caught a shrew last night. Still going to buy a couple of these traps though...the damage these little critters can do is amazing.

Re: Trapline Mole traps - product review
Score another for the Trapline.
A few small areas of grass started dying in my lawn. It really looked like grub damage starting to show up.
So I started digging around. Grass was peeling back virtually root less. Still, couldn't find a single grub worm so I dug deeper until I stumbled upon a tunnel.
It was too deep to set the victor, so I called the trapline up from the minors.
12 hours later and I got my first gopher.

Gopher? Did you use the regular mole trap or something larger?

Re: Trapline Mole traps - product review
It was just the regular trap. Based on the tunnel size, I felt comfortable using the smaller regular trap.
It worked flawlessly and had to have killed within seconds based on how it caught the gopher.

I'm starting to suspect that I have moles.

Re: Trapline Mole traps - product review
I was at war with moles at my old house for several years. I started using some insecticide I got from a farmer that was used in crop dusters. It seems the stuff you get from Lowes and other places are too week to do much good. I put this stuff down once a year in mid July and after a couple years the moles left. I was there for 8 more years and would maybe see one tunnel a year from a mole that would wander into the yard. The best way I found to kill them was with a 20 gauge shot gun.

Re: Trapline Mole traps - product review
Gophers are really tearing up the neighborhood.
I caught my first one on the 18th, and now one of my neighbors across the street had a gopher mound pop up this morning.
It's only a matter of time, so I placed my order for the larger gopher traps.
I'll update.

Sounds like you need to call our Bestlawn resident exterminator. I'm sure he does gophers too.

My populations are much lower and now I only have to pull out my break barrel pellet rifle once in a while. I know it sounds bad (probably is) but it is fun at times and I have the healthiest foxes in town.
