Unfortunately 10x12 is the absolute max I can build, which is fine seeing that I am just using it to store a few boxes in the garage, lawn equipment and a few other random items. Per city code, the shed has to be 3 ft from fence so thanks for calling that out. I do plan on installing a small window on the side, solar lighting, and some gutters. Downspout will empty into a basin like object with gravel that will empty further into the ground. Thanks for the insight all!

IF, you feel like a few extra sq feet could be used; don't forget you can make it 10' tall instead of 8.
oh, and we want to some pics

Re: Shed construction
I thought of going up, but those pesky HOA folks say 8.5 is the tallest I can go.....so it will be 8.5.

Worm Hole
To save space, you could also put a worm hole over in the corner and store your larger items like mower/wheelbarrow/Milo on the other side of the galaxy. You know, space savings and all.
Seriously, I'm glad you are getting what you are getting, and agree some non-electricians photos of your progress would be good.

Shed construction
Might want to make a list of what you would need electric for in the shed before going through all that effort as you might not have as big a need for it as you think.
It would be nice to have electric in my shed just because but with most of my tools now cordless and being able to use a solar light I really don't have the need for electric there that I thought I would.
I'd have to dig a 80-100 ft trench plus run electric from breaker box to the outside and just don't think it's worth the effort for something I would rarely even use.

Re: Shed construction
Because of the size of the shed, I won't be running electrical. Just thought I'd ask the question to get some possible different viewpoints. I believe with a window and a solar light, I should be sitting pretty. DFW: I will be posting pics (per usual) of the build once it starts and post under this forum. Should be sometime next month...still trying to get my zoysia right.

Re: Shed construction
I agree with this. I hit the power cord to my shed because the previous owner only put it about 2" undergroundTsmith wrote:Might want to make a list of what you would need electric for in the shed before going through all that effort as you might not have as big a need for it as you think.
I bought the underground repair kit, but it's been about two years and haven't had a need to repair it yet. A 100' extension cord is about $20, so I've used that with a saw and radio a few times. I sometimes think that having a light would be nice but I think they sell solar powered LED ones now. I've had to use my flashlight a couple of times, but I already know where everything is and I would usually want to bring a flashlight anyway just to unlock the shed in the dark. I could understand if you want it to be a workshop so you could work out there at night, but if you aren't then it really is more of a luxury than anything else.

Re: Shed construction
Here is the Solar light I put in my shed which I mentioned a few times so thought I'd share a link.

I was able to mount the solar panel inside in one of the window frames and it charges fine through the window and provides more than enough light

Re: Shed construction
I built a 12x12 shed 2 years ago, I regret not making it bigger. I'll try to get some pics up the weekend.
It was a fun project and I did 95% all by myself.

Re: Shed construction
I plan on doing the same...all DIY. Being a military guy, I hate paying someone to do something I could probably do myself. Plus I like doing this kinda stuff

I don't believe that trait is unique to military guys.Main_sail22 wrote:Being a military guy, I hate paying someone to do something I could probably do myself.
You'll enjoy the project, for sure, and you'll probably learn a lot in the process. I'm jealous - I wish I had room for a shed house/man cave.
