Brilliant jerks
Ever had to put up with one of these? Seems like almost every workplace and every forum has one.

Oh yeah! There was one on GW, but he had half a serving of Brilliant, and a double-serving of Troll. I can't remember his username, but it was real similar to yours. We warned him that his antics wouldn't be carried over to this forum. That warning remains active.

Brilliant jerks
If the company I work for decided to get rid of people like this there would barely be anyone left for me to work with
I work in IT so I spend my day either talking with people who can barely speak English or people who think they are the CEO

I don't think it's as much IT people and lawns as it is that IT people are more likely to actively participate in web forums than the general population.j4c11 wrote:What is it with all the IT people and lawns? I'm also in IT, I do software development.
Since this discussion forum is on the web, a disproportionate number of our regular readers will be IT people.
If this discussion were only accessible from the tables in a sports bar, we'd have a disproportionate number of baseball fans amongst our members.

Re: Brilliant jerks
Recent posts and threads all over the site have made me think a bit about our collective conduct. I was reminded of the rotary 4-way test:
Rotary 4-Way Test:
The 4-way test really doesn't allow for "jerks" - brilliant or otherwise!
Rotary 4-Way Test:
If everybody were to consider their draft posting against the rotary 4-way test and then edited it until it satisfied the 4-way test, I dare say this would be a much better forum.Of the things we think, say or do
1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
The 4-way test really doesn't allow for "jerks" - brilliant or otherwise!

Re: Brilliant jerks
I think working on our lawn is more a stress release mechanism from dealing with the people we deal with on a daily basis. Right now I'm dealing with a project manager who ironically has no clue how to manage a project but still giving out the attitude and blaming everyone else so it's falling on me to pickup the piecesj4c11 wrote:What is it with all the IT people and lawns? I can't speak to what goes on in the halls of commerce, but I do know that I've seen it too, in the field.Tsmith wrote:j4c11 wrote:Tsmith wrote:If the company I work for decided to get rid of people like this there would barely be anyone left for me to work with

Normally, when encountering an individual that thinks they know it all, we older tradesmen used to call them Stupivisors. It would happen every time a young upstart thought they were "smarter" than experienced older hands. They always thought that Their hands, and guidance, were magical instruments, .....and how come you older guys don't do it "my new way"

Re: Brilliant jerks
I just had this happen to me at hair cuttery of all places. The lady cutting my hair did everything backwards and even put gel in before cleaning up the back of neck and sideburns so I mentioned it and she freaks out saying she's been cutting hair for 30 years and started before most of these others girls were born

Re: Brilliant jerks
Tsmith, there is only one way to adjust your expectations. That is; lower them, or seek a truly competent person that understands and is willing to provide what you expect. Performance is expected by those who demand performance.
How did you end up in a situation where someone's experience did not live up to your expectation?

Re: Brilliant jerks
Not at all. I thought it was an interesting article that most everyone can relate to. Do you feel provoked or targeted by the topic? Definitely wasn't my intention.LoneRanger wrote:It seems as though your ulterior motive is to provoke, j4c11.
