Post by Billybob » October 26th, 2016, 3:46 pm

Does anyone here have a hearing aid? I had a hearing test and the audiologist recommended I get one..... actually two.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Seems like there are a wide range of prices and types. Which kind do you have......completely in ear or the type that wraps around? Are you happy with the one you chose?

Mind sharing the brand? Or would you prefer to pm the information?

Any help is appreciated......

They are custom made by Beltone. The fit in the outer & middle ear. They were the only ones my insurance would cover.

Billybob, it's amazing that you should mention this about hearing aids. Just this morning I was at my ophthalmologist's office and saw a brochure about the revelance of hearing loss and it's association with dementia in senior citizens. Not saying that it might be reverent in your case, but it is definitely something I was glad to be aware of. I think it has something to do with cognitive awareness and loss of memory or something to that effect. Worth checking out on your part as well as mine.
Good Luck!

Yes Tony that's one of the reasons I'm really considering getting one.

It all started about a month ago when one morning I woke up and my entire bedroom was spinning. I went to an ENT and I developed vertigo. Horrible illness.

Thank God after about two weeks and vestibular therapy it subsided.

While I was there I had a hearing test. My wife strongly recommended it. Turns out I can't hear the higher frequency sounds.

I'm having a hard time accepting it because I always thought my hearing was ok.

Turns out in conversation you're brain actually fills in the blanks when you think you heard the correct word but it's not what the other person said.

I did a little research and hearing loss affects your brain, like you said the possibility of early dementia.

Also you start to decline sooner than people with normal hearing.

Unfortunately there are only 3 states that insurance covers hearing aids. My insurance covers a portion and they are extremely expensive.

I got sticker shock when I found out the cost. The pair my audiologist recommended is $4700.

I will probably end up getting them. I feel bad for people on fixed income.
