2x4 basics/garage storage

Post by ajmikola » October 27th, 2016, 10:21 pm

So now that my grass stopped growing i move on to my "winter hobby": woodworking and building nik naks.
I stumbled across this little gem of a product and want to give it a quick review.
You can make a custom variation of storage for a very reasonable price.
2x4 basics.com and they have all kinds of different ideas. Simple and fun!

I just built a 2x4 Basics storage shelf and have the stuff to build a gardening table for my wife. What the 2x4 Basics is is a set of joints, for lack of a better term. You slide a couple 2x4s through them and cross connect them with some more 2x4s. What I like about the concept is you can make them any size you want. I use Rubbermaid bins for storage. They are 16.5 inches wide. If you want to store them efficiently then you need your shelf width in multiples of 16.5 (plus a little). A 48-inch wide shelf will only hold 2 and leave a lot of space between them. I just finished a shelf that holds 3 bins side by side, 4 shelves high, and couldn't be happier. I'm planning to make more shelves and the garden table this winter.

Here is a link to their construction instructions.
