Anyone Else Shoot Clay?

Post by andy10917 » April 11th, 2017, 9:08 pm

Anyone else out there shoot Trap or Skeet?

I finally had to admit that my shoulder can't take the pummeling of lots of rounds any more, so I moved down from 12ga and 16ga to a Remington 1187 20ga that I got as a birthday present recently. First day out and a little nervous that I wouldn't be able to hit anything, but damn the gun felt beautiful and I held my own out there...

I think I'll keep the gun.

Yep. Indiana Gun club in Geist. Very nice. You can borrow a $2k shotgun if you don't own one too.

It's very cool to see some fellow clay shooters. I'm a AA sporting clays shooter. Two years ago I traded my Browning out for a Kolar Max Lite.

I took a Blaser for a ride and it didn't do a thing for me. By the time you get them all setup they weigh far more than the specs and the recoil wasn't nearly a soft as my Kolar. My first shotgun was a Beretta AL390, I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with that thing. Had a fitter work on it a couple of times but we just couldn't dial it in. I went to a Browning and my scores took a heck of a jump. Unfortunately I'm not nearly as strong as I used to be, I just don't have The time to shoot a couple of flats a week these days. But that will all change when I put up a 5 stand course at the next house. :)

I've had two 390s, atf got my 20ga after it turned out it was stolen. Several 391s but have since gotten rid of all of them. 391s just couldn't hold up to the shooting our clay guys did. Still have an Xtrema2 for my turkey killin and a couple M1s for the duck hole and doves. Just bought my first over and under in hopes to get me out at the gun club more often, so far it is working. Seeing a lot of guys start shooting these Bredas recently. Took the wife out last weekend for her first time at the range, I have an old M1 20g she used with the forcing cone done and ported...its sweet shooting gun...she did well with it

No but I'd like to try it sometime. I'd like to try IPSC as well but it's kind of tough due to the politics surrounding guns here in Canuckistan. Most ranges are only set up for benched shooting, i.e. 100 meters or more with a bolt action. ZZZZ

The last time I did that, I shot so poorly. But I do enjoy it. I think about it to much...being more of a fowl hunter, which is reactionary shooting, I over think the clay and don't let myself instinctually shoot.

21 is a heck of round!
