Questionable dry dog food on lawn
Long story short, we have a couple of bags of dry dog food that we got off Amazon. Our dogs have been eating the same food for 5+ years but this was the first time buying online. After eating it they both started vomiting and I saw on the Amazon reviews that one customer from a few days ago reported the same issue.
Amazon refunded me for both bags and they told me to not send them back. Would any of you toss it in the front lawn if the dogs aren't in the front yard? I was thinking the food could just be spoiled (not properly sealed, back of hot delivery truck, etc) but also concerned there could be a possible health issue (ie samonella)?

I'm pretty sure somebody has posted about using dry dog food as lawn fertilizer before. I think it was DC Hall.

Sorry if I wasn't clear. My concern was mainly if it would be wise to toss it on the lawn if it was possibly contaminated with something like salmonella. I wasn't sure if it would be an issue if the area wasn't used for edibles and didn't get a lot of foot traffic from the dogs.

If you wager it in right away, I don't think you need to worry about it.

Re: Questionable dry dog food on lawn
I don't know a lot about salmonella but was there a recall on the dog food? If you had a known source to verify, that would be one thing.lojack323 wrote: ↑April 23rd, 2019, 11:14 am

Water it in, give it a couple days and water some more.
If you're unsure about it, throw it away.

Re: Questionable dry dog food on lawn
Thanks for the reply. I kept looking online since my last post and haven't seen anything about a recall or other dogs getting sick. The food is currently melting into my lawnlikeasponge wrote: ↑April 26th, 2019, 12:11 amI don't know a lot about salmonella but was there a recall on the dog food? I would absolutely put it on the lawn. One of the great things about tens of thousands of species of microbes in the soil is that they can convert just about any pathogen into harmless.
