Am I at high risk if I keep running windows 7? I would rather not buy a new computer and mine ran very poorly when I tried windows 10 on it. Appreciate your time! :x

There will be no patches for malware after January 20(?), and you'll be an easy target thereafter.

Supposedly, the period for upgrading to windows 10 for free ended a long time abo, but I read recently that it still works.

Here's one article about it:https://www.cnet.com/how-to/upgrade-to- ... heres-how/

Yes I tried 10. It bogged my old laptop down too much. I guess I should get a new one. Just don't want that purchase right now. Trying to watch the budget.

Here is an alternative that I love for older machines. It converts your old rig to a Chromebook and it is very fast.

To clarify the Windows 7 versions of extended life, I believe it is the Enterprise version.

For what it's worth, Windows 10 installations using Windows 7 Pro keys still seem to work. Within the past month, I had a hard drive on a Windows 7 computer die, and I was able to do a fresh install of Windows 10 using the Windows 7 product key (from the sticker on the machine) without any trouble.

I delayed getting Windows 10 up until this past spring. My insurance company started requiring Win 10 security settings to secure their payments, so that was that. The transfer went a lot smoother and faster than I anticipated. After watching the transition to Win 10 in my office I was not at all impressed with the look and feel of the UI. Everyone got a new computer except me, and I refused simply because I did not want Win 10. Everyone complained that they could not find anything. Well it turns out the people I worked with were either unable or not interested in changing the settings. Now that I have it and have the settings fixed, I kind of like the UI. Also apparently you do not have to have a Microsoft account to run Win 10. The nagging to get the account is very minimal.

Windows 10 isn't too bad, it's the updates that drive me crazy. I seem to routinely get errors when running updates that just seem to come and go unexplainably.

Well, you're most likely doing the Windows 10 stuff just as they're about to announce the end-of-support for Windows 10, and a likely date of 2025. They are about to announce what is being called (not officially yet) "Windows 11". Best guess seems to be an announcement date of June 24.

We could make a video: "David: Portrait of The Late Adopter."

That's fine. Morph is right about late adopter. My main problems with 10 have been fixed, because the initial roll-out was a stupid product, and people complained. Remember when you could not stop 10 from rebooting in the middle of your work, because it wanted to update itself? That was a Dilbert level of stupid.
