Artists?
Share your passion? I do some polymer clay sculpting (poorly) and acrylic painting (finally, I feel, just barely well enough to post and no longer gesso over).
This is part of my Lone Tree series, which has actually become a series due to the Coronavirus issue (which I feel will have an influence on art and media over the next few years). The tree stands isolated and alone, but still part of its environment, although I used some tricks of color and shadow to set it off even more than I would normally do so in a landscape. I wouldn't have chosen those olive tones otherwise. This is done in acrylic on cotton duck canvas, 16x12.

Re: Artists?
Nice looking painting. I have pretty much no artistic talent, so I can't contribute.

Re: Artists?
I found this design online, thought it was simple and adorable, and ripped it out last night. It's by The Art Sherpa, who does basic free painting lessons in acrylics for anybody who would like to learn (and she's actually very good, I've watched some of hers and she's a blip). If you would want to learn, check her out--lessons are (again) all free and there are over 600 of them.

Cool stuff!
This one is an oil panel done on a trip to Denver last summer. It was done in about a two hour window, before the light changes. For me, quick decisions and directness is the aesthetic for this kind of stuff…
Felt like I had one hand tied behind back, because I needed to pick up some generic oil colors out there, didn’t want to fly with my own…
Outdoor studios can be problematic…

Re: Artists?
Another wonderful one! I don't do plein air because...well, acrylics. One puff of wind and it's dry.
Also, mountain lions. Although around here, I'd more likely be attacked by the local foxes, bears, or rattlesnakes, none of which are particularly dangerous and would rather go the other direction.

Re: Artists?
I'm uninspired right now so I knocked out a rocky promontory with a slightly-annoyed ocean to keep my hand in. I did the Cosmos, but I wasn't particularly happy with it.
The only thing of note is that this is a two-color image (burnt sienna and Prussian blue only). The only other tones used were titanium white and carbon black.

Re: Artists?
Thanks, folks!
One perfect red rose from a Knockout rose bush (OK, the original is closer to a red-pink, but I like playing with color). I used titanium white, zinc white, cadmium red medium, cad red light, alizarin crimson hue, quinacridone magenta, and dioxazine purple. For the background, burnt sienna and phthalo green.

Re: Artists?
I need much practice in bright yellows, so I played with the image a bit. And reinterpreted the whole thing, really. You can, if you have a practiced eye, definitely see the learning curve and where I started. Colors are cadmium yellow medium, cad yellow light, cad yellow dark, indian yellow hue, yellow-orange azo, cadmium orange, yellow ochre, transparent brown oxide, burnt sienna, titanium white, and zinc white. The background is burnt sienna and phthalo green again.

Re: Artists?
Those roses almost look like photographs except for the backgrounds.
I'm impressed.

Re: Artists?
Thanks! That actually was the goal; realistic flowers on an impressionistic bokeh. And frankly, the photographs didn't capture the detail of the paintings, either. The yellow is the lesser work of the two, by far, though.
I do want to try doing this in white, which is the hardest color to paint.
Where'd I put that... I like painting roses.

Nor, probably, want to. But his name is Sage, he's a quantum computer technician, and he's really quite nice. His likes include catnip, belly rubs, and tearing the hearts out of his enemies in unarmed jungle combat. It kind of joins...where did I put that...
Kitsune, who you'll notice most definitely isn't quite a fox. This one only has a single tail; she's in disguise.
