At one point in time the backlog was so bad(long, long wait) to get a Texas CHL, people were getting a Utah one since they're valid here.

For those that reload or might consider I just bought a Forster single stage Co-Ax press. Really nice unit. My old one is an old Hollywood press single stage. Still works fine and was the best at it's time. I had to hand press primers in the small rifle cartridge due to a lack of a primer punch for the Hollywood press. The Forster in my opinion is one of the best on the market with ease of die installation.

I like that Ruger LCP a lot, alas I live in Mass and they are on the dealer can't sell list. I hate this state more and more each day. I did pick up a Sig 238 a few weeks back, only 25 rounds through it, but I love it so far.

I have no reloading equip, nor do I know how whatsoever, but I still collect my brass because I know that day will come soon enough.

I just ordered one of these:

For $200 can't go wrong and the reviews are pretty positive.

That should be a really fun plinker.

How are you guys making out on finding ammo down there in TX? It's still pretty dry up here in the Northeast. Gun shops get 22LR in and it goes right away. Wal Mart gets it in, gun shops buy it all and resell it at a markup.

Very hard to find:
22LR
380
357

Easier to find:
9mm

Can find most anywhere:
223
556
40

.22LR is pretty thin, but you can find it from time to time. It can be pricey though, pricey for .22

I don't have a .380 or .357 or .40, so I don't know, since I don't look for that ammo.

9mm is pretty plentiful now, so is .45ACP. I think .223 is pretty easy to come by, I don't know about .556. You can get .223 or .556 for less than $7 a box at the place I purchased the gun(here's the whole "Daily Deals" page):

Yea that's a great price for FMJ 556. Too bad I have "enough" at the moment.

Sounds like things are the same across the country.

Wal-Mart seems to have held their prices. You can get a Winchester White Box 555 count 22LR for $24 if you get real lucky, but they go quick. I haven't been lucky since the fall actually. Haven't really looked too hard either. Some guys I know hunt for ammo 7 days a week. I got "enough", too busy for that.

There are some folks that drive around all day for their jobs and they get the opportunity to stop at all kinds of stores during their travels. Some post in an "Ammo on Sale" thread at the Texas CHL form website. It's almost turned into a "I spotted this ammo here" thread. I have quite a bit of 9mm and .45ACP, not that much .22 though. I'll have to keep my eyes open for it.

Just purchased my first AR15 platform gun. It's a Smith M&P, maybe not 100% AR15 since there is no forward assist(FA) or dust cover, but from what I've read an FA isn't really needed or a dust cover(unless you're in the desert). Mine will be a range plinker.

I shoot quite a bit. It's squirrel season and I need to get down to my woods. Ruger 10 22.

Two H&K USP45s, a full-size and compact, both in stainless. Thinking of selling them actually, not sure if they're still a hot commodity in MA as I know we now have the successor models on our approved roster here in MA.

Those 642s are a handful, I've had both the hammerless and hammer versions. Id rather shoot my 629 that those things. Great to carry though.

Great thread; started shooting at 7yoa, competed in smallbore, then CMP Rifle & Postol for a State Team, Perry 89-93, police pistol (the old PPC Expert); ISPC/USPSA then IDPA. Obscene firearms collection but, guess what?

Don't matter a wit how many guns (or reloading presses or pallets of, well, just leave it at pallets) cuz NOW MY YARD OWNS ME!!!! :rotfl:

Still, I mean it; this is a great thread!
