I've been wanting an SW M&P Shield for 6 months now as a concealed carry gun, of course you can't find any around at all, even though I'm 10 minutes from the factory. I've been waiting patiently, but searching many gun shops online inventories for months. I then thought to myself: Searching gun websites all the time, then ordering all these funky chemicals and fertilizers for my lawn, searching craigslist for used propane tanks for my propane generator.....I'm probably pretty high up on the government watch list!

I'd like to have a Shield too. I'd really like the .40, but S&W has had some mag drop issues with that model-You can read about those on the S&W forum. There's a gun shop here that advertises them(9mm flavor) on occasion for $479(That's $30 above MSRP, which isn't really bad in this day and age). Our local Academy Sports used to sell these for $399, but they haven't had them in a very long time.

You don't have natural gas available for your generator?

S&W M&P is on my buy list only I want to see what my state is doing on there quest for gun laws. The magazine capacity is on their to do list. Plus I am aware of the long wait so I picked up the 642 without internal lock which a lot of people were not aware they had such a thing so I jumped on it.

Fortunately our state is passing some good gun laws this session. I had a S&W 3913 and sold it, wish I hadn't.

I watch the local gun shop inventories online and its sorta funny: A dozen M&P 9's will pop up one week. Then gone. A week later, a dozen BG380's will pop up, then gone. You can tell what they are making and shipping from week to week.

I really don't mind not having the 9mm, because I wouldn't be able to find any ammo to shoot it anyways, or, pay crazy prices.

My house is on the outskirts of town, so no natural gas unfortunately. I decided propane over gas because EVERYTHING here in the northeast is all E-15. It's been wreaking havoc on every small motor everywhere. StarTron and Stabil help out, but I still don't trust the stuff. You can store propane for years without worries of it going bad.

I ordered 1k of 9 and 1k of .45acp a few months ago(reloads). Sold 500 of the 9 and 400 .45 to two co-workers.

Gensets are convenient to have. I have a 17kW natural gas(18kW on propane) hooked up to my house.

So I finally found my S&W M&P Shield 9mm. I got it on the Cape while I was on vacation. Also very lucky to find 9mm target ammo at the local big box the last few times out. Things seem to be getting a little better out there.
Haven't had a lot of free time, only have 30 rounds through the Shield. I like the gun, but, I wanted it as an everyday carry piece, and although on the smaller side, I still think its too big for me personally, and I'm business casual here at work. Got the crossbreed mini-tuck, not working with what I wear. I may end up pocket carrying. (sigh) I may just be forced to go out and get a Ruger LCP. Darn.

Congrats on the find. A couple weekends ago I picked up a Beretta Nano. I haven't gotten it to the range yet though. I have the ammo, but mostly what I have is 115gr stuff and I've read that it doesn't like the light weight bullet/load and may jam. 124gr on up it seems to like better. My range experience will validate that.

A lot of folks love these holsters and for $40(for the original) that's not a bad gamble-it could be worse. Check it out:

Guys, what type of pistol do you think is easiest for a woman to fire in a panic situation?

Thinking may teach wife to use a .22 revolver.

I'd have to say a revolver(double action-shrouded or bobbed hammer(snagless)). I would get her a 38 special. If she's going to fire it, at least send something ballistics-wise respectable downrange or at her assailant.

Image

Pros:
-No jams to worry about
-No safety to worry/think about

Just pull the trigger and keep pulling until it goes click instead of boom.

Cons:
Limited to 5 shots
More difficult to reload than a Semi-Auto(at least without a speedloader)

Good luck.

My middle son taught his fiance how to use a shotgun as a defense weapon (something like "drywall is easy to fix"). She got into shotguns, and now regularly shoots 23's at trap/skeet, around five months after her first trp to the range.

I hunt, shoot, and have a concealed carry license in two states.

Indiana just legalized auto knives, so - yeah - I'm now into those too :)

With an Indiana CCW you've got 29 other states covered as well-reciprocity rocks!

The smaller lightweight revolvers have quite a recoil, I'm not sure she would feel comfortable with that maybe try to find a gun shop that she could fire a few rounds, I have the 642 after firing some very old wadcutter ammo with old ball powder and then newer ammo including +P ammo it's quite a jolt. An auto loader might be a better choice.

Update: I've been spending a lot of my time/money working up loads for the 6BR, even with the ammo components hard to come by, 4 pds. of Varget, 7K small rifle primers, Lapua brass and Sierra VDL bullets are obtainable but not overpriced robbery purchases. The 308 conversion is underway. I got CCI primers at Powder Valley. Seems 22 rimfire ammo at least Wolf extra match and others are harder to come by, unless you don't mind paying a premium.

I have a Springfield XDM 9mm. I love it. Very accurate, not too big and it has 20 round mags :-)

Those airweights are a handful, I've owned both in hammerless and with the hammer, practicing was a challenge, they are light and just not enough grip to hold on to with the recoil. Not fun to shoot.

It's hard to beat a Bersa 380 for the money, I've sold many, and have never had any come back or any issues brought to my attention. Good safety features also, magazine disconnect, ambi safety, good trigger with a 1/4 trigger pull after first shot, double action with hammer if you decide you just have to [banned word] it. It's just a lot of good gun for the money. I wouldn't worry too much about down range, since most altercations are within 7ft.

Good to see ammo back in stock here and there.
I've had great luck finding 9mm at the big boxes.
Dicks Sporting goods even had CCI minimags recently.

I think the hysteria is easing. I'm finding ammo more regularly instead of empty shelves. And my local Academy store has quit storing (certain)ammo at the service desk and it's back on the shelves like it was originally.

Concealed carry. I usually carry a Ruger 380 or S&W MP40 compact...

Also have a Mossberg persuader 20g for anyone that would like to come into my home uninvited

It's my Florida non-resident permit that REALLY opens the gates up.

Can't carry in OH with an IN LTCH, which I travel through frequently.
