Lawn Mower Blade Sharpener - RBG-712 Review

So you do in Fact Pay for what you Get! After reading many reviews here and from Google, I decided to go with the RBG-712. Yes, it is expensive ($399 +/-). But it was the only one I saw that had built in 30 degrees angles to properly sharpen blades. So I looked it up on eBay and found one for $390 with Free Expedited S&H.

I then actually called up OMB Warehouse and asked a bunch of questions, which in the end I felt there would be Zero Buyers Remorse!

I decided to pull the Trigger. My only mistake was not buying their Package deal for $500 . . .

This comes with the Grit Guard and an extra grinding wheel for my inventory. The OMB rep said that this grinder does throw a tremendous amount of grit out the back and I would be glad I bought it. That said, I bought the Grit cover and extra wheel over the phone with an acceptable $8 S&H charge. This actually turned out to be less than the $500 eBay package deal by $20.
So I was feeling good about my purchase on Wed morning. Thursday afternoon I get a phone call on my cell and it's FedEx. They have tried twice on Thursday to deliver but nobody was home. They wanted to know if they could meet me. I said 3:30pm at my house. I left work at 3pm got home by 3:30 and the FedEx guy was in my driveway. I signed for the package and humped the 50lbs + box into my workshop. I unboxed it and it came out as a total machine with nothing to assemble. Note, this grinder base has 4 holes that you could if you wanted to, screw the machine down to your work bench. For me the machine is so heavy that I didn't need to do this; it doesn't budge. I plugged it in and fired it up and it came immediately to life. So what the hell, I grabbed a 22" Toro Mulch blade that was dinged and dull and started to drag it through the 30 degree angle. After 6 slow pulls on each side I inspected it and it was razor sharp !
So in ending this review, I have gotten full value for my spending dollars. This is a well built, American made, machine that does exactly what it was built for! Buying from OMB was one of the best experiences I have ever had. Ordered it around lunchtime on Wednesday and had it running on my work bench by 3:30pm Thursday! How much better can Customer Service get?

Wow, sounds like quite the machine. How many blades do you sharpen a year?

I thought it's supposed to be butter knife sharp, not razor sharp?

I have read from some here that a rotary mower's blade doesn't need to be sharpened to razor sharp. Just butter knife sharp, as in, as sharp as a butter knife. Reel mowers are different.

. . . . well, Razor sharp is what I'm using and it cuts my Zoysia like a 4 blade Gillette razor does over my beard. My lawn has never looked better after each cut!

Thanks! Was curious if I could get a better cut with razor sharp as I've never sharpened my blade to that degree before..
