Re: Milorganite sale
What I dont get is why there sale price is by zone. Menards had it for 5.99 in some places, 7.99 in others and 12.67 in indy. It is the same store, why the difference?

Seems like our next issue after global warming is the shortage of poop. Does this explain why Americans are getting heavier?

Re: Milorganite sale
I suspect shipping is the biggest expense, since it seems to be least expensive closest to the manufacturing sites. And you're right, I haven't seen any milo on any sort of sale in the Indy area yet.g-man wrote: ↑May 4th, 2017, 1:28 pmWhat I dont get is why there sale price is by zone. Re: Milorganite sale
$5 a bag extra for shipping? There most be some other factor. Supply and demand. Maybe we are using too much in the indy area that they know we will buy it at whatever price. I'm down to two bags, so I will be buying some regardless of price by next week.
I might have a business trip to north chicago area in the next weeks, but my coworkers might not like the fragrance of milo for 4hr in a car or the car rental company. :-D

G-man- maybe your rental could be a truck or SUV, with an open bed or closed trailer... Maybe you could drop off about a dozen or so bags at my house

Re: Milorganite sale
I asked the guy at the MWRA (where I pick up baystate) about how much demand they get. He said it grows a little bit each year but I would have expected much more.
Although I think you really need to understand the benefits of it because to treat 30k sqft with baystate it costs me about $56 for 16 bags at the pallet/pickup price of $3.50 a bag. Compare that to $60 for two 15k sqft bags of sta green fert at lowes and to some people it's not worth the hassle. Add in the "retail price" vs picking it up by the pallet and it's more expensive I think it's $9 a bag at ACE. Some people just don't care (like we do).
Sorry, I know that was a little off topic!

Re: Milorganite sale
Do you have to get a pallet?
I'd love to grab some baystate but i only have about 2200sq ft. the wife's car could probably fit about 10 bags which should be more than enough for a while. Mine fits a golf bag and that's about it.

No, you can buy whatever quantity you want, all $3.50 a bag. One pallet only gets me 3 applications though

My city says it produces biosolids that it spreads on over 600 acres of surrounding crop land. I assume that would be suitable for lawns but not sure if they'll give me any.

Re: Milorganite sale
While biosolid programs have come a long way from the sludge days, there are still very large differences between what can be done with a city recycling to trained agricultural applications and the "exceptional quality" designation that is needed for use by homeowners in residential areas for products like Milorganite, Bay State, Dillo Dirt and Tagro.
I read somewhere recently that Milorganite has sold 9 Billion pounds of product. I know where a few million lbs went.

Andy, are you referring to my local big box store, lol? They can't ever keep it in stock. Grabbed the last 2 bags they had today.

Yeah they told me they don't heat the biosolids sufficient to remove pathogens. I'm guessing the agriculture applications are not for human consumption.

Re: Milorganite sale
It appears there is no sale this year. Looks like a 500 mile round trip to Quincy. Hope mother wants to go for a ride.
Full disclosure she already approved it.

Menards has 11% off this week - that's the best deal I know of around here anyways - not saying it's great.

Re: Milorganite sale
Looks like True Value has it for $9.99, instead of the usual $6.99 from their past sales. Still roughly 25% off the $13 retail price. Maybe they'll drop the price again if the $9.99 price doesn't move much inventory.

I still have enough in my garage for a while, but will need to stock up - does anyone remember when Walmart had its sale last year?

Re: Milorganite sale
I am curious what the in-stock quantities have been for those who visited a physical store.
I had to go to 2 different Menards to pick up 8 bags last week; the first had 2 open bags left, the second one had none on the floor but had received a pallet that morning that had to be pulled from receiving for me. It was at the end of a sale, and I usually buy from Fleet Farm (had a Menards rebate check to use), so I don't have a basis for comparison, but I am curious if availability is an issue.
