Post by Casutherland » May 7th, 2018, 8:19 pm

So my rose bushes were looking beautiful and then basically over the past couple of days.. Something really destroyed them.. Does this look like bug damage??

That looks like rose slugs. Most insecticide sprays will treat them (and also harm beneficial insects). Non-chemical control is more difficult. If you ignore them, then eventually predator insects will move in and take care of them, but the roses will take more damage. You can also try manual removal and organic insecticide sprays (which will be gentler on the pests and beneficial insects). The rose slugs look like small green caterpillars on the underside of the leaves.

You may want to research making and using a homemade neem oil spray.

I have used this approach with little success. Now the roses are under attack from Japanese beetles. I just wish that one year, I could have nice healthy roses lol. Always under attack from slugs, sawfly larvae, and Japanese beetles :/
